29mm smoothbores on an '82 1100E
Anybody have an idea how a set of 29mm smoothbores (accelerator pump equipped) might run vs CV34's on a stock 1100E with pods and a header? The size might be a little small but smoothbores flow better than the same size CV's.Tags: None

They are too small for the 4 valve head engine. If your looking for better performance get some GSXR carbs, RS Mikuni's or Keihin FCR's.

A stock GS1150 came with 36 mm CVs and made right at 100bhp at the rear wheel. My 1150E has 33mm smoothbores, pods, Stage III kit, and a V&H exhasut. Dyno'd HP is up 10% over stock (109.8 bhp), and torque is up 7%.
My setup isn't exactly what you're looking at doing, but pretty close. I certainly don't think you'd lose anything with the smoothbores, as long as you went with pods and a jet kit to take advantage of the increased and less turbulent flow characteristics of the carbs.GS450E GS650E GS700ES GS1000E GS1000G GS1100G GS1100E

29mm is too small. I am running 36mm Flatslides on a 83 1100 ESD, and they are absolutly fantastic!

29mm smoothies are perfect for a 1000cc bike. Not sure how good they are for a larger bore.
Were putting 33mm smoothies on my 1085 for that reason.

Hey RJ, if you decide not to use those 29's, drop me a line (b200driver@aol.com) I've been looking for a nice set. I had Mikuni 33's on my 1260 motor, and sold it that way. Mikuni RS36's (flatslides) are the way to go for that engine. The intake manifolds on your 1100 will be a little large for 29's, and you'll have to smash them down to fit.

Yeah I kind of figured that the 29mm carbs may a bit too small for the 1100 but there have been some good deals on them on eBay so I just wanted some feedback. Thanks to all for your responses.

29s for 2 valve heads with slower intake velocity
33s for 4 valve heads with fast intake velocity
Over carburation is the worst problem in the internal cumbustion process it's not bigger is better 99.9% of the time with close to stock cams, ignition exhaust.
