Gs 1000/gs1100 Wheel Size ??
Could someone tell me what the rear wheel size is on a 80-83 GS 1000 or GS1100. I have a GS 750 , rear drum and would like to put somthing other than a 17" wheel on the back due to the lack of sticky tires availible.Tags: None

The biggest problem is rim width on older GS models, not diameter. In fact you will find the better rubber in 17" tires. I don't think '80-'83 rims are going to do much good as far as a bigger tire selection goes. You obviously have something older than an '80 model. An '88 or so Katana 600 rim would give you a 3.5"X17" rim that you can get pretty good tires for. You can put a 140 series radial and probably a 150 on that rim. It would involve using rotor and caliper from the same bike. I have everything you would need if you decide to go that route.

I put GS1000 wheels on my bike. They bolted right on. No problems. The only difference seems to be that the 1000s have aluminum rims. (That's why I put them on!) 8)Kevin

I put a 5.5" wheel on the back & a 3.5" on the front of mine. So I could get good tires. The easy thing to do is use a GS 1150 rear at least it's 3.5" wide.
