The town I live in is about 6500 feet and I live at approximately 8000 feet (gain of 1500 feet). I am getting 40-45 mpg cruising at 80 mph uphill (i know, i have a tend to speed!). Oh yeah, I have a '79 850.

        MPG

I seem to be in the range of 32-37mpg (imp) while cruising hwy speeds of around 70 mph and in town I try(?) to keep fairly(?) legal. Riding 80-1100ET with Kerker, Dyna S +coils,K&N(in the box) and mild jetting. Side note to Earl- Thanx for past help, much appeciated! Yes, a 6th gear would be great for the highway.....our bikes pull around 3800 rpm at 100 km/hr (62mph?). I am considering an extra tooth on the c'shaft too, for a more relaxed ride on the highway, esp. with the drone of the 4x1. I could care less about 1/4 mile times  .

            Switching gearing

Years ago I also thought that my 81 GS11 was geared a tad to short. I talked to my dealer and they suggested that I drop a tooth or two on the rear spocket rather than the add to the primary. Their explaination was that the increased load that adding a tooth on the primary would put too much of a load to the engine and be detrimental to engine longevity. I have lived with a 41 rear tooth for 24 years. On the highway I dial into a nice vibration free range and I don't feel the engine is spinning too much. 8)

Whats your rpm @60 mph with the 41 tooth sprocket? I hear that adding/subtracting a tooth on the countershaft=4teeth on the back sprocket.

It is more of a 1 to 3 ratio but that all depends on what you start with. If stock Suzuki then it is very close to a 1 to 3 ratio

upper 40's mpg around town & back and forth to work. Low to mid 50's mpg (US) cruising 70-75 mph on the Interstate. Stock everything...the EPA plugs over the air screws on my carbs are still in place, even!

i also run one tooth over on the primary sprocket. Load on the engine or countershaft--well maybe i just cant see it--- i know a smaller sprocket makes the chain work a little more- I loved the smaller sprocket but in my opinion, the larger countershaft or the smaller rear is a nice mod for the 110/11150cc bikes Shafties?????? LOL LOL

I'm at about 200 miles per tank on the 83 1100E. Not sure what the capacity of the tank is - 5gals? So that would be 40mpg.
