do i have a CDI ?

i have a 1981 gs 750 would that be a cdi i dont remember seeing points

why i ask is i ordered a set of accel coils for a cdi

None of the GS's came with CDI. The resistance in coils for a CDI system is too low and if used with our electronic ignitions will almost certainly fry the ignitor. I don't know what the resistance should be for points systems but for electonic ignition (those systems with pickups and ignitors) you should use the 3 ohm (green) coils.

CDI ign .9 ohms
elect GS ign 3 ohms
points ign 5 ohms

I have a 1981 GS 750 ex I replaced my coils with Dyna 3 ohms the green ones. A simple change and they work great. Andy

hey snow rider: if you're not firing on just one cylinder, it's not the coils fault...

4 cylinders, 2 coils. you do the math... while one cylinder fires on the compression stroke, the other fires on the exhaust stroke, so if your coil were bad, you'd be runnign on 2 cylinders, not 3.

look for a fowled plug or a bad wire and save your money.

plug wire

I think there has been some discussion about replacing wires with the coils as they are, do a search in the tech section.

The wires are held in stock coils by something akin to hot glue. They can be gotten out with a little work and replaced.
