I've been having a rough idle lately. Wed. I took the valve cover off and found one of the cam lobes was wearing into the rocker arm. Not too suprisingly it was the lobe that had been damaged by a blow up. So I ripped the motor apart and proceeded to drop a washer down into the motor. Ended up having to pull the block to get it. Thrashed till 2:00 am Friday night to get it together. Put in the smaller 325 lift megacycle cams. And thought while I was at it to try the 38 mikuni's. Took 8lbs static off the clutch since I didn't know what it would do. Went 9.87 @132 off the trailer. Best pass was 9.79 @133. At least it didn't slow down at all. Thats about what it was running in the bad air.

First round I cut a 508 RT and then ran a 9.839 on a 9.84 dial. Second round I hit the button for third gear and it didn't shift. By the time I realized it I was on the Limiter. Then it wont shift for sure. Looked the bike over and found the chain is a little tighter than it should be. A quick fix.

    Until next time.

A Yamaha xs650? I have one I thought about turning into a dirt dragger... but 150ft is a lot different than 1/4 mile. Did you see it run?

Mike, the H2 is owned by the lady and her husband standing next to it. The bike runs in the 8's. I guess they took it out of storage while the other bike is being serviced. They are at the track every points race, so if you have any questions about it I can ask them.

Schinae, yes I have watched this bike run serval times. If I could take one bike from the track this would be it. Even over the high doller bikes. It has a lot of character. Every part has a story behind it. Even the body work was all home made. These were the other previous pictures of the Yamaha,

So, you just want me to ask them some general questions? What color is it, how many cylinders, how fast does that thing go, sort of thing? Or are you looking for details about some part of it? I have to go there this weekend anyway, so it's no problem to find out. Just PM me a list of questions you want me to ask.

I put the new EK MS chain on and another sprocket. Really pumped up the jetting and inlet feed. Should know Friday how it turns out. Damm this gasoline.....

Friday was a bust. First pass, crack crack crack pop pop pop. About 100 in the 1/8 and 80 and the high end. Played with jetting all night. The engine is starting to smooth back out but still fighting the jetting. Too many cars so I ended up testing in the back area. My second and last pass down the track managed to pull off a 140, but still way off the mark.

No word on the H2. They did not attend last week. Should be there this weekend so I will let you know what I find out.

Thanks Lecroy, I'm headed to the track tonight for test and tune. I think I have found some power so I'm interested to see what it will run now. Mike J

Things went pretty good today. Had a fair number of bikes show up. Maybe 70-90. Ran three classes. Shootout, Pro E/T and Street E/T. The only bad thing that happened was someone brought a bike that had a bad oil leak. I bet I cleaned up 20 spots of oil myself.

I did not drive today. I think it was a good thing as when they start hot lapping things get a little out of hand. No testing on the gas project bike.

I took a few pictures, but the camera tries to help me take better pictures by doing some auto focus. In some shots the camera focused on things that I could care less about. So the shot I wanted turned out fuzzy. Well that's my story anyway. I will post them if there are any good ones.

A few 70's type bikes showed up. One a guy had found in a garage of the guy who built it. Chomed, molly frame. That's nickle chrome over steel.

Ok, as for the H2 I am not sure. They had the bike there and I asked them some questions about it. The chassis was made in Oklahoma city. Three were made at that time by the builder. The told me who built the engine and that person was there today but I did not speek to them. The engine uses some Polaris and ArticCat parts. I am thinking the rods cam from a Polaris and the pistons were from an ArticCat. The pipes were made by someone I had heard of, but I forgot who. Sounds like they built the bike in 95. They run it in the 8's with no spray and the bike currently holds a Prostar record of some sorts. They tell me it is a very easy bike to drive. Streight and smooth. I did not ask if it was for sale. My guess is that the price may be more than you would want to pay.

Thanks for the info Lecroy, I went to the track on Friday and Saturday. I made some jetting changes along with advancing the timing. The bike wouldn't run Friday for some reason. I made about 15 passes and it was dead. Maybe I didn't allow enough time for the engine to cool between passes. On the way home from the track I noticed the clutch seem to be slipping. I put in a new clutch on Saturday and went back. More time to cool down between passes and the bike ran only marginally better. 7.36 @ 94 mph. The bike feels faster with the timing and jet change but the numbers don't seem to show it. Jake or anyone, have you guys seen any difference with the motor hot vs. cool? I have some larger mains that I may try next but it's going to be a few weeks before I can get back to try it. Mike J
