Do I want this 'busa header? (Pics!)

I just won a Hayabusa exhaust system, header to cans, on eBay. All I really want is the midpipes and cans...or do I want the header too? No way its going to fit my GS750ES, right?

What about an '83 GS550 with '83 GS750ES engine in it?

Input? Anyone want a cheap header?

Try it and let us know. 8)

You never can tell whats gonna work until you try it. It would be great to discover a new source of pipes....

It was the same shipping with or without the pipes so we'll find out!

Ha! That would be sweet... all those stock 'busa systems laying around for cheap just waiting to slip directly on to our early '80s GSXXX/Xs.

        Busa Header

I would be interested to know if the Busa Header fits the air/oil cooled 750ES engine. On my engine I have used headers off an air/oil cooled GSX-R750 motor, GSX750 and GSX600.

Well I finally got the 'busa exhaust today. No deal on using the header itself.

The #1&2 and #3&4 pave the right spacing but the distance between 2&3 is too narrow. I think its equal between all four.

It does look like I'll be able to slice and dice the outlet of the header and be able to use the stock 'busa mid pipes and cans on my GS750ES. If it works out I'll post pics and details...but that is at least a week away.

I bought a set of headers off a kawasaki (I think) a few years ago, the spacing was all wrong, but I found I could squeeze the outer pipes in an inch, and the inner pipes out about the same without any special tools, and it worked fine. A bit like operating a "Bullworker" if you're old enough to remember them! Cheers, Terry.

I'll post detailes when I can but I just got things tacked in place and wanted to get a couple of shots up. I WILL post details in the near future but I've got to ebay my spare organs, mow the lawn, get this beast running and move to GA in the near future... so I'll get on it when I can.

Anyway, here is my '83 GS750 with Hayabusa mid pipes and cans. I don't know how it sounds yet but I'll get back to you on that when I have the carbs in!

That looks pretty cool. I want to do the same for my bike, but using a 4-1 exhaust system.

That looks very cool!! Reminds me of the Duc Monster a little. What did the system cost ya? They will probably be very quiet & still flow more freely than the stock GS pipes. They would also look great polished, if you like 'bling"

I think the 'busa system ran me $71 with shipping. I like the OE finish on the cans...but MAN those things are soft. I didn't exactly bang them around during fitting but I've got tons of scratches and one dent that looks like someone took a ball peen hammer to it. S-O-F-T.

I'm checking all of my previous work tonight.. axle bolts, engine mounts...that kind of thing... and getting ready to put in the carbs, if I can figure out which set I want to run. I think I'm going to start off with the carbs with stock jetting and one shim under the needles.

Once its running I'm going to go back to wet sanding like a madman... maybe lay the paint this weekend.

Good thread.....I'm looking for a possible replacement for the open Kerker on my Wes Cooley. Also, I looked @ Kerker online and they don't show any replacement for the system that I have: or any GS for that matter!? Any input?
                      Thanks, Hugh

you can still get headers from vance and hines, mac, and jardine for the old bikes. Im thinking the V&H is gonna be the avenue I take.

                          Thanks, LW....
I did look at Vance & Hines. Couldn't seem to tell what the header actually looked like, though. I don't want a drag-bike style pipe; I want it to turn up like the one in my avatar. Also, couldn't tell what the baffle configurations were with the different models. If I can figure those things out, I'll probably go V & H.

                            V&H Header

If I am not mistaken, the V&H is identical to the Kerker, V&H having bought out Kerker some years ago.

                              V&H Header

The V&H Header turns up like the Kerker did. Not as much as ones for more modern bikes do though.
