    Ignition timing

    Hello,

I just installed a programmable ignition to my GS1100 and now I'm searching for optimal advance values. Any ideas what is the maximum safe value for full load? And how the advance should change as function of the rpm? I think that the advance should grow as the rpm increases but the power band (6000-9000 rpm) needs less advance. I have already tried to increase advance for partial load and it seems to improve drivability. The maximum advance with stock ignition is 32 deg, how conservative value this is? The engine is almost stock except the exhaust and the fuel injection.

Thanks in advance. I appreciate any information.

I run 35 deg on my race bike. I've heard of a ton of guys running 34 deg. I picked up 1 mph when I went from 34 to 35. I'm afraid to go any higher.

Thanks for the info. Do you use the mechanical advancer or just static timing? And what kind fuel you use? I guess that you have somewhat higher compression ratio?

10.5-1 1166 pistons. I'm running a schnitz box ignition. Static is 18 deg. I think advance is set at 17. The box does it for me between 2000-3000 rpm. I dont ride my bike on the street.

So the total advance is 35 after 3000 rpm. This is a good starting point for experiments. Thanks again.
