    Dyna coils & Ignition Question....

    Folks,

I?m going to upgrade to Dyna 3.0 ohm DC1-1 Coils on my 850GLZ over the winter.
Since the bike is already electronic ignition, is there any advantage to using their DS3-2 ignition as well?

I would only replace it if the stock part breaks, it is nothing more then a trigger really.

The coils are a worthwhile upgrade.

Most of us just install the coils -- the stock electronic ignitions seem to be pretty reliable (wonder of wonders...).

The point of the new coils is more that we can replace the old, beat-up spark plug wires. The stock coils usually work fine as far as energy output, but their non-replaceable molded-in spark plug wires have all turned into hardened, cracked, weathered, oily, useless spaghetti. Really stupid design, IMHO, but widespread in Japanese bikes.

I hear that mounting the slightly larger Dyna coils is a real PITA on an "L" model. Be creative, and check your list of swear words beforehand so you don't run out of appropriate curses.
