    I'll take some pictures of the method used on my bike. It's not all that bad.

    What did you pay for the side covers? Are they reproductions or N.O.S.?

      Kevin, the side covers are totally NOS, and I think they were about $125 for the pair with ALL of the attaching hardware and rubber grommets. They had the tail piece too, but that was almost $150.00, so I picked up an NOS piece on Ebay for $40.00 that had some scratches from "shelf wear" & so forth, but it's easily sandable before the primer goes on.

      My rear looks just like yours, but the front matches, & my brakes are the vented style. I just picked up a rear rotor thinking I was going to retore it rather than mod it, but it was an '83 GL model, and evidently they're not the same rotor, unless the guy selling it didn't have a clue.

      Got my busa swingarm & shock linkage yesterday, but the bonehead that sent the linkage neglected to include the SHOCK that was also part of the auction. Email traffic continues......

        wheels and frame

        Well, it feels like forever, but these should be painted next week. When you have friends do your work for cheap, you get the discount, but you have to wait forever. Oh well, at least I know it's being done right.

          WOW, Kevin, those look great. I'm still grinding.welding on my frame, so it won't be going to the powdercoater any time soon. Lots of fitting that needs to be done first.

          Are those Gixxer wheels? I need a Gixxer front, & a 'Busa rear. Cant figure out yet, how the busa shock linkage will mate to the GS frame. Gonna need some welding on the bottom end because there's an additional linkage support that I hadn't counted on, that looks like it needs to get mounted to the frame forward of the bottom of the shock, and under the swingarm pivot. I think I need to look really closely at a Hayabusa.

          I just cut out my battery tray supports, so there's no going back, now! :? I have a nice piece of steel at the machinist to have a bushing made to fit between the stock pivot bolt, & the Busa swingarm. That stock busa pivot bolt is .980", and the stock GS pivot is .625, so the piece will be an 8.900" tube with a .980" O.D. and a .625" I.D. I'll need to sand down the O.D. of the stock bolt since it's the same diameter, but the alternative was to have a speacial reamer made to get the .627" for .002" clearance, and the reamer would've cost $100.00 all by itself! The .625 is a 5/8" bit in the lathe. Works out pretty well, all in all.

              Yes, those are GSXR wheels. I don't know what year they are exactly, but they are 1990-1992 1100 wheels.

              I should mention; those wheels and frame are stripped, waiting to be powdercoated. The wheels were chem dipped, then bead blasted. The frame was put in an oven and the paint was burnt off, then also bead blasted. The guys doing the work were real nice to me and my big nose. I got tours of the shops, and they showed me all the processes and equipment they use. What is booring industrial machinery to most people is more interesting than Disney Land to me.

              It's Friday now, 2 weeks later, and still no word about the powdercoating. I was hoping to start putting this bike back together this weekend. I hope I get a call today. At least it has left me time to work on my other 5 bikes.

                If you look at where the spokes meet the rim there are date codes cast on the wheel.

                  Thanks for the tip; I didn't know that. I'll look when I get them back. Actually I'm going to zoom in on some of my digital pics to see if I can read it.

                  It's gonna be next week now . Just talked to my powdercoater.

                  I hope I remember where everything goes.

                      A lot of the time when "cast dates" are used on bike components, they were used on the NEXT year model run. So I am willing to safely bet your wheels came off a '90 GSXR.

                        I am sorting all my parts, prepping my garage for re-assembly, and trying to get my swingarm to a mirror finish. I can't believe it's actually getting close.

                                I found it easier to turn the motor sideways and lower the frame around the engine than trying to lift the engine into the frame. Especially when you are working by yourself.
