    I see your point, but you really can't compare the two. Stock 1157cc displacement with decent suspension (43mm tubes) and modern wheels/brakes. All the Bandit needs is a pipe, jet kit and GSXR cams to really make it go- 120bhp.

    Guys are getting 150 bhp out of the stock 36mm carbs with a 1216 cc kit. And she is gonna handle better than any GS on skinny bias tires.



    Not to mention, she sure is purty.

      They sure are and I see your point too. You got to build what you have I was thinking of picking one up last year for 3K but decided not to.

      We got a guy down here that has run as fast as 6.57 in the 1/8 and that's oem tire and no bars. I think all he's done is move the tire back as far as it could go and swap the cams. Gearing ? not to sure on that on but he is a good rider.

        Can I use the 1150 head on a 1100 motor with the Wiseco K1168 kit?
        1150 head has bigger valves and a different valve angle, am I right?
        I mean that those pistons have "pockets" for stock valves, will those bigger 1150 valves hit my pistons? I'm not gonna be using stock cams.

          Thats what I have in mine. You just have to get the 1150 stud kit from APE or whoever you like. I opened up my exhaust ports a little and it does have bigger intakes. No problems with valve clearance. Throw on some 36mm carbs and use the 1150 cams and you'll be surprised in the
          power. You will lose you mechanical tach......

            bandit vs GS

            say Ed: I was lucky enough to pick up an 01 Bandit 12 for small bucks last year, and it is more motorcycle than a stock GS in most ways- suspension/ tires/ wheels/ brakes/ smooth /quiet etc etc- , but I have left it stock as it is a great street bike and I don't have to f' with it to go when I want to. Pipe/jets/ and more can get more peak, but the wide flat torque curve is what is so nice about it - that is the best feature of the GS, no?

            GSs make much better hot rods, in my garage anyway, and my mild 1150 runs right with the Bandit, at least up past 100 or until the road gets curvy. I have more confidence in the GS bottom end and the GS just pulls very hard from waaay down in the rpms and keeps pulling like a humongous rubber band. The Bandit wants more shifting than the GS on a typical winding road. GSXR cams and you'd be shifting even more. Well tuned GS1150 with a pipe you can leave in 3rd or 4th and just go.

            One juvenile delinquent point in favor of the GS: A squid on a naked Ducati *@%^$*@%^$*@%^$*@%^$ed me off on Highway 1 in Northern California a while back by making a loud, stupid pass while we were cooling it thru a small town (Marshall, for those familiar with that turf). Once out of town I chased him down and kept showing him my front wheel on the inside of turns, until I got bored with it and backed off. He was passable but I didn't want him in back of me. I am far from juvenile these days, just an old fart delinquent I guess, but this is serious fun and the flat power curve makes it easy.

            Doesn't prove much, but guys on modern sportbikes can sure be easily fooled by a stock looking, maybe even ratty looking GS. my kind of fun...

              The Bandit is a fun ride. I planned to leave mine alone but have started to get the bug to fiddle with it. Jet kit w/airbox mod and pipe, 5 degree advancer, PAIR removal is the extent of the motor mods for now. I would like to bump up hp and move the power delivery up into the higher rpms. Cams are in the near future and that will be the extent of motor work for a while.

              I agree the GS1100/1150 are great bikes, bulletproof motors that are very limited by suspension/tires/brakes. The Bandit needs no real suspension or brake work other than aftermarket fork springs and brake lines. The GSXR 1157cc motor is very easily tuned for serious power. It is a very nice package that can be bought for less than what it would take to make a GS1100/1150 comparable.
