efe1150 swingarm swaps what will fit
I cant get enough traction off the start line at the drags so I need to fit a larger rear rim which means a new swingarm to fit a larger rim any suggestionsTags: None

My stock 81 swingarm fits a 180 tire, yours must be similar even though it is monoshock? Biggest problems are the brake arm and chain line, they need to go outwards. Check the Katana section on my site.

about the widest tyre that will fit before touching the edge of my swing arm is a 140 and that leaves about 6mm clearance either side

Hi you can fit a 4.5in rim which would let put a 160 on the back. I used a bandit 600 wheel in my efe.

Have put a 750wp arm in mine , but all gsxr ones will fit into the frame . Bandit 12 will fit but need spacing a bit either side , about 5mm either side . Have used a busa wheel in the back of mine , looks like it'll clear the frame ( unlike my 1980 1100 which needed the framed widened )

EFE? which arm do you have now?
I have measured up several swingarms for possible replacement on an EFE, and the stocker is plenty wide and longer than either a Bandit 12 or 'busa arm. Maybe we are talking different models?
In the shop up on blocks I have US 1985 GS1150 chassis, this one was an E model, it appears identical to my 85 GS1150 ESF (which is all together, my main street bike) the stock swing arm has lots of room. I have a mock up right now with a 5.5" rear from some late model Kawasaki, lots of room, have not made up a brake torque arm yet but the wheel and tire fit fine. This is with a sport bike shaped tire, I think it is a Diablo.
BTW this stock swing arm appears nearly identical to an 1988 Katana 600 chassis also sitting around in my shop, if one were looking for a low bucks swingarm swap for the 1100 models the Katana arm is steel, longer and wider than stock and I think longer than most late model sport bikes. Wrecked 600 parts are plentiful and cheap, no?
Bottom line, for a big square tire like a slick I think you will have to extend whatever swing arm you use. Maybe extending/bracing the stocker is a better idea than swapping.

I can fit a 140 tyre in but there is no room for any more the smallest drag tyre I can in OZ that I can find is a 150 mickey thompson?and I see all the newer bike's running around with 160,190 plus tyre's and I think thats what I have to have have to have any chance of beating the new bikes down the 1/4
I want to be quick but to beat the new bikes or keep up is the plan and to do that I need the wide tyre I reckon I've got the horses and reaction times just not the traction ie hook up! But i have nearly come to the realization that to get a bigger rear end is going to be a lot harder than just swapping a front end not that I have done that but there is plenty of info on that if you want to do it not like a rear end swap thanks for your input Best time so far 1199cc in far north queensland with heaps of humidity is 11.47 at 120mph need more traction it smokes the back tyre for the first 10 yards
