    exhaust mod questions

on my 1980 gs 1000l i wanted the mac turnout 4 into 2 exhausts, but also like the drag pipes on the honda 750 chopper site.I think i could make the turnouts by cutting the stock pipes and adding turnout ezxtensions. I know nothing about exhausts, would this home remedy hurt my bike or hurt the performance or just make a lott noise? Any suggestions apppreciated.

Open "drag pipes" are not a good idea. They actually promote "too much" exhaust flow" which will cause your exhaust valves to "burn". You need some type of back pressure restriction to effectively "cool" your exhaust valves. If the drag pipes you plan on purchasing, at least have a baffle, those will work ok. Just don't run "open" drag pipes.
