    Adding a new 1166 kit.

I have finally been able to purchase all of the items needed to complete an 1166 up grade of my 1980 GS1100E. I purchased my piston kit from Wiseco and I found a guy to bore the cylanders for only $100.00. My question is since I purchased the kit from Wiseco and the rings are part of the kit how necessary is it to check the ring gap. How difficult is it? I have never done it or sean it done and I am not sure how to complete the inspection. What kind of tools will I need and even more inportant where do you find the tools need to verify the gap. If there is anyone with some tricks of the trade or
experianced advise on this Mod. I am all ears.

It's always important to check the ring gap and it's very easy to do. Just take the ring, insert it into the barrel, and use the top of the piston to push it down the cylinder to the mid-way point. Then take a feeler guage and measure the gap.

    Simple, yes?
