katana front Wheel on a 700E

    Also..What is behind the heads/infront of the carbs. Did you tweak the motor to get anymore out of it? Were you sucessful?

      You bike looks exactly like what I was going for, and when I hacked my rear fender off I thought it was going to be more original. I was looking closer at the pic and notice you swapped the foot rests, is that a fab job or does something bolt right up.
      Also does the Kat front end have clip ons like the 700, I really hate those.
      Mine is an '88 GSXR750 front end. I just drilled and tapped the top clamp and bolted on some clamps to use a tubular bar. The rearsets are GSXR. I cut off the massive lump that the old pegs bolted to and welded on just enough plate to bolt the rearsets to. If you notice I don't have passenger pegs.

        It's a Yosh heat shield to keep the carbs cooler. I run RS flatslides and a Yosh Duplex pipe that came off an early '90s GSXR. The head was redone and is still fairly fresh. It's mildly ported. The bike screams as anyone who has ever ridden with me can swear to.

          Clearing the ES fairing is the real issue, the tank is clear. I bought LSL riser 41mm clip-ons for the Katana forks. I could have used the stock Katana bars, they are the ones in my original photo, but I did not like them and wanted something lower. Since you cannot raise the fork tubes above the top triple enough to mount bars (due to ground clearance issues), you must mount the bars below the top triple. This is why you need riser bars.



          Photo above shows the LSL bars mounted below the top triple. You will need to fabricate new fork stops as the Katana stops will not work on the GS frame. Hope this all helps, Ed.

              That is sweet Ed. I am getting the itch. There's a bike shop in New Braunfels that just changed hands. They've been advertising deep discounts on leftover non-current models. If I have time tomorrow I may go up and see what they have to offer.

                Is the rear wheel from an '88 too? I love your bike, You've done an excellent job on it, wish mine looked that nice!

                  I believe it's an '88. It's a 4.5" width. Thanks for the compliments. I have about 60 hours of work in polishing just the wheels. I am about to swap to an inverted fork off a '95 GSXR.

                    Billy, I just put on a 93 gixer front end on my gs700, put bearing in the back wheel and now it's looking a little close. It's a 180/55, do you think I can make it work or am I gonna have to get another from a kitty? The motor is out so I can't line it up but it's lookin close.

                      The 180 is too big. A 160 is close in mine.

                        OK.you just deflated my ballon. Here is my progress. How can I determin how long the front forks have to be, can I leave the clip on on top or do they have to be underneath?

                        Looks in better shape than it is, trust me

                        can anyone tell me how to determine the fork length the I need to have to maintain a stable ride. The clip ons work much better on top, but afraid it will adversly effect the handling.

                          With the clipons on top you're going to lose too much ground clearance and bang the bottom of the exhaust. I've mashed mine a few times. Best bet is a 954 triple but it's too late for that. Setup is everything. Get the preload right to keep from bottoming out. 1" of sag is what you want. That's the difference in length with the wheel off the ground and fully extended vs. the bike on the ground with your weight in the seat.

                          BTW, yours is looking good.

                            Thanks, hope I can get it set up as well as yours. Everything is in set up stage except jumping the gun on powder coating, should have brace the frame for a different motor while it was stripped.
