    Oil Cooler

What would be some of the benifits of adding an oil cooler to my bike? I know it would help cool the engine but does it cause a noticable difference?

In south jersey, maybe not. temps may not actually get high enough for an oil cooler to really necessary.
Is your bike stock? or modded? if it is modded, what mods?.
Probably more worthwhile to maintain clean high quality oil instead.

The most noticable difference will be how well the bike handles being stuck in traffic. If you're unlikely to get caught in stop & go traffic for 15 - 20 minutes, a stock engine doesn't really NEED one.

I am putting on pod air filters, freer flowing exhuast header, yoshimura r-3 race muffler, and dynojet stage 3.

You will need. An oil cooler, lines,2x banjo bolts (M14x1.5 IIRC) and an 1150 oil filter cover.
either side of the oil filter housing there are two dummy bolts(one either side) hook up the oil lines to these with the banjo bolts, fit 1150 oil filter cover, mount cooler, fill the motor with oil and ride away.

Go ahead and put one on...you should notice a difference on the temp gauge on your next blast to Atlantic City . Aside from the obvious benefits of minimizing thermal breakdown, keeping the oil at a sane temp should benefit your stator too, IMHO.

Sounds fairly easy to do, thanks alot.

How with the bike be without the cooler after the mods? I live in a real rural area where I do a lot of open riding so I am guesing that I will be fine riding. Just another thing to put on later if the opportunity presents itself.

Just have to stay away from those casinos, I never seem to learn a lesson from going there.

why change the oil filter cover to the 1150 if the oil lines are being installed at the dummy holes? I also have an 81 1100E.

There was an extensive post on this one earlier. The short story is that the oil cooler will not be the only path in the loop and will not be utilized properly.

I've just read that page. A great resource as it answered all of my questions. Thanks Jethro.

I didn't post this in the for sale section yet, but I have an '84 1150 oil cooler I removed from my '83 1100. I did not have the 1150 oil filter cap, so the cooler was useless.

It has a few bent fins here and there, but that's normal. I think I have pics on my computer at home, send me a PM if you're interested in purchasing it.
