I do see that the term UFO is a HUGE miscomunication. He calls the 4:1s universal when his pipe fits everything and every size motor and every jet kit? That not universal? I put this here so people would know who they are dealing with. Not so they wouldn't buy the pipe. I could give a rats a55 whether or not you buy the pipe. I'd like to try it one day, but not at that price and not from that guy.

OK this is what I did.I have two motors, one bank had I think a137.5 main and I don't remember the other jets with stock needles.Ran fine with this setup. The other bank of carbs has a jet kit in it I don't know which one(dyno or K&N) but it has mains, needles, springs and pilots(this is stage 3 correct?).I honestly don't know where the needle height is but it runs very strong as is so I haven't messed with it.This motor goes through about a quart of oil every 600 miles and smokes at startup. It still does very well though. My bro in law has a 03 cbrr 600 and he can't get more than 2 lenghts on me @WOT in 5th.My other head and cyl is at STAR as we type so she won't be smoking for long. Can't wait 1229,G3's,38 flatslides and all the necessities(oil pump, gears, top oiler, basket)to help it live a while. It has a dyna 2000 with a billet rotor and timing plate in it now.It will pull to9500 easy but I did back down the rev limiter to 9000 just to be safe.I have never dialed cams in on anything but I did get an A in TRIG in college so I think I'll be fine.I just need a good resource for a degree kit!PLEASE!! I have found some decent kits but you guys may know of someone I haven't found yet.
I know Monty is an arrogant ass,but his pipe works for me.It's different and I like that, plus it performs very well.I try to be a sponge here and learn as much as I can so I hope I didn't **** any one off too much.Don

What he has done with this exhaust is just make a freer flowing pipe similar to a stock exhaust. The X serves the same purpose as the crossover in a stock exhaust. Keeps the powerband wider than a 4 into 1 but probably won't make the power a 4 into 1 will up top. It's the same exhaust sold in the '80s only then it was the MX-2 and later renamed the MX-3. This is probably just some NOS he never sold. If it were the ultimate in exhausts everyone would be producing a similar design.

In case you haven't noticed, virtually all the production inline4 literbike manufacturers use an EXUP like device in the midpipe. Part of it is emissions, but most of it is being able to keep the shrieking top end, still have a decent midrange, and generally make up for the faults of a 4-1 pipe.

Do they use this in racing? No.

Does this mean its not the ultimate in exhaust design, and therefore should be junked?

Apples and oranges and the EXUP works on a different principle altogether.
