Which has better performance?
What would create the biggest increase in performance pods or velocity stacks (each with proper jetting)?

What about the emgo filters I just read a thread that said that they can cause some problems in power delivery. Or would I be fine if I got them?

Is there any other air filter pods that will give decent performance but cost less than the K&Ns?

Someone else will have to answer that. The Emgos are probably alright. I've had the same set of K&Ns now for about 19 or 20 years, well worth the cost.

Another thing to consider. More often than not, you'll need a jet kit. The jet kits I've seen are designed to be used with K&N's filters and a QUALITY pipe.
If you run cheaper filters and/or a cheap or "home made" pipe, you'll most likely have problems jetting. You'll defeat the reason you bought the jet kit.
Besides not getting the kind of power you expected, you'll be wasting YOUR TIME and getting frustrated. Time is money. Also, if you jet the bike wrong, it will be rich or lean and both cause their own problems.
Jetting can still be a challenge, even with a kit. But they've always helped me.And on the seventh day, after resting from all that he had done,God went for a ride on his GS!
Upon seeing that it was good, he went out again on his ZX14! But just a little bit faster!

Ditto for the K&N's. I've had both Emgo's and K&N pods, the K&N's are worth every penny. With the recharge kit you can make them brand new every time. Add you get the cool sticker!Currently bikeless

I bought a used set of K&N's on eBay fro about 40 bucks IIRC. They were fine. Pretty much any old bike's pod filters that uses CV carbs will fit yours too.
