And use chain wax. Works better than oil, attracts less dirt and makes no mess. If I did this idea here I would simply be creating an oil leak on purpose

I think it is a great idea for a dirt bike though.

Are you guys running non-o0ring chains that you like to use oil on them?

Nope, I commute rain or shine all summer about 90 miles a day. I'm trying to get as many miles as possible on a chain, and keeping it well lubed is the best way that I know to do that. It's the rain that messes up the chain, as it has all the lube washed off, and is replaced with dirty water, grinding into the o-rings. If I can get the flow just right, the mess shouldn't be an issue, it's only if I flow too much oil that it will fly off everywhere, and with a constant flow of oil, the chain should stay lubed even in the rain. I also like the idea of filling a reservoir and being done. Instead of spraying down the chain after every ride.

Out of curiousity, how many miles do you get off a chain Hoom?

As far as stopping the oil flow, just use a solenoid valve.

Positively worth it. Anything that makes more ride time and less tinker time is a worthy idea.

A good o-ring chain and sprocket usually goes a few years for me (approx 20k). I always seem to end up either selling bikes and/or replacing for some other reason long before they wear out. I was using standard chains for a while because I kept blowing out o-ring chains until I learned that the issue was me making the chains to tight and stretching them prematurely. Also on this note (since you asked) I was using chain lube and the dealer turned me onto using chain wax instead of oils. He said it will help them last way longer. It appears he was very right. But most likely because I am not the most faithful maintenance man. Again, making this a very good looking idea. You come up with an oiler that works well and doesn't make a mess and I am telling you, patent your idea!

HAHA! I mark my territory! I shut the valve, but the oil below the valve still drips out. I need a soup can. lol.

axminster.com has drip feeders that are adjustable and there are some more on ebay. #7573334639

This is about what I am seeing, 15,000 - 25,000 miles on average for a set of sprokets and chain. I don't lube them very often, just clean them out once a month or so. But then again, I don't normally drive aggresive and I tend to stay out of the bad weather anymore.
