My bike is better than your bike... top speed at the track was 173 mph, felt like she had a little more in her. Don't know what my 1/4 mile time was. I'm not good off the line, but the bike is fast.

care to put a little $$ on that Jethro?
        been 177 in the 1/4, low 8s

81 katana shootout bike, 68", street tire, No Bars

I run a progressive box, you can tune it to put down just the right amount of power.
Franco 1428, Bike is brutal fast. I have yet to put a jockey on it, but should run 7.80s@183 or so

There are pics of it on one of the katana web pages, I forget which one.

Hey Skip not change the subject but I just found something out. I have a couple 84 ES`s...they both have a 3 inch rear. I just bought a 86 model rear wheel and it is a 3 1/2 inch....wonder if ya can get a 150 on that ?? Looks like ya may have to go to a 530 chain to clear but I really think it can be done. The 3 1/2 inch has a 140 on it now and doesn`t look pinched at all...and Skip what lift and duration cam are you running...I noticed that you said you were running cam motion....are they out of business?? I can get fantastic deals on web (25% below dealer!) but I have never really liked thier camshafts. I`ve always prefered megacycle. THANKS!!

Well I finally experienced one of those power wheelie's you guys keep talking about , conditions must have been just right. I was cruising along about 10 mph in the parking lot at work, then I nailed it and feathered the clutch. The front came up about a foot, suprised the hell out of me but damn it felt good.
                  Doze  .

I wish I had your swing arm and tire because I normally cant spray till 3rd gear. In that pass that I posted, I was desperate to beat a friend of mine and srayed second gear and for some reason I cant explain, it stuck. Normally when I spray second gear It either smokes the rear tire or snap wheelies and I end up having to change my underwear. What are you runing for motor mods and what was your rider/bike weight combo? Mine was 750lbs. On the motor only the best et was10.30@ 136
Skip, was reading this thread....and was curious:

How much HP can one get without changing the swingarm? What I mean is...If you were to just take that bike and make no structural modifications (does not include carbs, exhaust, etc), how much horsepower could you get? Is there a limit to what the engine can handle?

                      Thanks!

i have seen 200 hp ( mine is just about that with the nitrous)bikes with stock chassies but what i have found in my situation is if you cant get it to the ground it does you no good, unless you want to just run for top speed . if you over power your frame you will get some flexing and twisting and it will feel like you are riding a sponge. When i use the spray im on the verge of flexing my frame . Without my steering stabilizer my bike wobbles if i use the spray, and it wont if I dont use it (so somthing is flexing somewere.) with the steering stabilizer it goes pretty straight .

I think I know Ralph, He is the KZ nut, correct?
They bought a KZ from my buddy last spring.
I think I have seen you up there. When I go up I'm usually hanging with Bullet Bob, Mike Sweeny, those lunatics.

I bet your wobbling problem would be helped with a outboard bearing support.that is a major flex area in a stock chassis. It has to tie into the swingarm pivot to be effective.

length is a limiting factor in E.T., but the rider is the main limit. there are guys in the 8.50s on the 60" pro sportbike class. I think a stock GS is around 58", about the same as a Hayabusa. When mildly modded(lowered, pipe etc) and ridden by an exceptional pilot, these bikes will run in the 9.2s @150 with about 170 RWHP. aerodynamics play a role in the trap speed.

Stock length GSs can run WELL into the 8s, in fact they were outlawed from Pro sportbike to give the modern bikes a chance, GSs seriously dominate outlaw pro street.

ralph used to run a gs (yellow i believe) it was the only 8 second small tire bike up there the last time i went ] I think he has a big tire now. His wife races an 1967 chev malibu 9.50 car i think . I have not been up there in almost four years i stopped when it was time for the rebuild and have not been back but plan on it this summer. with my stock 130 tire (tiny) i ran a 9.97 @ 149.7 so if what you say was true, my bike( if I was better) would run 9:20? I didnt think i was that bad but maybe I am

for one thing, you dont weigh 120-130 pounds do you?
that makes a HUGE difference, not just power to weight but high CG makes the bike wheelie prone. you may also be having traction problems.you could have your stock rear wheel widened by Kosman or put on a set of modern GSXR wheels.

                              how long is your bike?

                              what do you 60'?

bike is stock wheelbase,( 60" or 61") stock swingarm, my best 60 ft was 1.58 but i average 1.70 and i never spray till third. I weigh 195 in the leathers and boots wich makes rider bike combo way up there at 750 lbs.
