    dyna 2000 tach trouble

Ok Dudes I need some help here.

I just installed my Dyna 2000. The bike is running but my tach is dead. I have connected the output two pulse Dyna to the black/y tach input for my katana but nothing but a couple blips. At first it was idling about 1k and reving it sent it to zero. Now little is going on.

anyone done this upgrade on there katana????

Is it supposed to be hooked up to a signal wire from the ignitor. If so it should go to one of the orange and white coil wires. Black/yellow is a ground.

I used a Daytona digital tach on my dyna 2000 and could not get a signal off the lead wires from the ignition box. I tried both and neither worked so I ditched that idea and went with the tach directions. I ended up mounting the pickup lead of the tach to the trigger side of the coil. I get a good signal there and it's steady on the display.

Not really an answer I know... But I did have the same problem with my dyna 2000.

Okay, I'm thinking stock colors, never mind.

Billy, acording to my wiring diag. the black/w is ground. the b/y goes to the igniter and the 2/3 primary coil connection. with the 2000 ignition the igniter is gone the advace unit is gone and the 2000 hooks directly up to the coils. the switched 12v (orange/w) still hooks to coils via kat wiring harness.

The original set up is b/y from igniter, to 2/3 coil primary, to tach. but the 2000 has a seperate signal wire.

I just checked my diagram out and even with the stock ignitor it goes to black/yellow. You probably just need to come of one of the trigger wires at the coils like Kaptain Ketchup did.

I talked to tech support today but he was of no use. he just read the install papers back to me.

I ran a wire from the 2/3 coil prim wire (blue) to the b/y leading to the tach and still had no result. since the stock igniter is no longer plugged in is there a loop problem with the empty plug? I can't see a problem but I am trying the impossible now I have tried all the possible fixes.

Could be a loop problem. Next thing to try might be to run a wire from the coil directly to the harness where it goes into the gauges and dig the tach wire out.

what I did basically is reconnect the b/y wire back up to the coil via a connecting wire though the manual says NOT TO DO IT.

With the ignitor gone I think you have an open circuit.

The way the GS wiring diagram looks you would think hooking the B/Y wire up would work. This one is a puzzler.

What did you do to sort it all out? I am having the same issue with getting my digital tach to work with dyna iginition, it worked fine before I installed the dyna
