what is the widest tire i can put on my 86 gs500es

I am about to aquire a 86 gs550es, i am new to riding so it will be my first bike, hopefully its not to big. i had to get it cause i got it for a really good deal will post pics when i get it on tuesday this week, well back to my question. i want to modernize this bike to look like the newer sport bikes. so what is the widest and lowest profile that i can put on the back and the front. thanks for any help will more question when i get the bike since i will have to replace the motor.

On stock rims stick to stock sizes. You'll actually lose contact patch by pinching larger than stock tires sidewalls down.

ok well if i was going to switch rims, which one would work with the gs550es, as far as models and thanks for the reply

Why do you want to change tire sizes? :-) Unless you can come up with a good reason, don't.

120's are apropreate for the stock wheels. You can't reach the edges.

oh i thought they came with a 110/90, at least that is what the brochure said it comes with. i just want to modernize the bike a little so i can put a 120 on the back of the bike.

Iv'e always put 120's on the back of 550's. :-) The front tire should be a 110.
