    17 Tooth 530 Front Sprocket

    Hi All, a question to the group. I'm looking to do a 530 conversation on the Kat. I've done the calculations and the 530 tooth numbers are 18/49, which I'd have to order. But I can get 17/45 immediately. Anyone run these this combo and had any issue. Clearance would be for the 1100 alloy swingarm which the 750 has.

    I'd stick with the 18. It's the proper diameter, matching the original sprocket. Smaller diameter sprockets will have more frictional losses.

      Noticeably faster chain wear too with the 17. Why 530 ? 520 is the current top performing chain and would be fine for the 750.

        Like for like tooth counts the 530 runs a smaller diameter than the 630 so go the higher count with the 530 to ensure you get sufficient clearance around the swingarm etc..

          Hi Darryl, I have the 530 set up on my Kat (the one that runs) and have 18 front 51 rear. I wanted to change the final drive ratio by a few points to improve pick-up, have much smoother gear changes and create a basic form of mechanical anti-squat by fitting a larger rear sprocket. The 18 51 combo increased engine RPM by 250 at 100kph. Plenty of swinger clearance. I have used 17 front in 530 and didn't notice any extra wear with chain or sprockets compared to OEM, clearance is the main issue, wouldn't go smaller than 17 for a Kat.

          The DW Kat (the one not running) is 520, 17 front 48 rear. The 17 front has the 520 chain clear the Kat swinger by 20mm with chain tension at 25 mm deflection.

          A 45 rear sprocket will lower the chain a few mm however, I don't know by how much. My thoughts would be to lean towards the larger set of sprockets rather than 17/45 combo. And I have to ask, are you sure you want the 530? You know where Iam going with this.

                  Thanks Glenn, this is exactly the information I was looking for. Yeah, I've pretty much decided to go 520, the 750 isn't going to bother a good quality 520. I've been looking at the JT sprockets in 520 and to date the largest front 520 I've found with the correct spline is a 17 tooth (JTF1516.17). Unless any one can point me to a part number? I quite happy to keep the final ratio close to the stock 2.7333. This could be achieved with the JTR1825

                  47T rear would yield a slightly lower 2.76.
                  46T rear would yield a slightly higher = 2.7
                  48T = 2.83:1 (close to the 1100 std ratio of 2.8)

                  The stock 750 rear 630 sprocket is one less tooth (41) than the stock 1100 (42)

                  I'm leaning towards 17/47 in 520.

                    No drama Darryl, have you looked at Metal Gear to supply sprockets? They source the sprockets from "ESJOT" Germany. Metal Gear supply chains as well but I buy my chains from Tsubaki, the Sigma range are still made in Japan and rated at 45.1 kN to cope with + 200hp bikes. Have used Tsubaki chain for about 30 years and never had a problem. The chain comes with rivet master link however, if you want to run a fish plate they will supply them for an extra cost.

                    Metal Gear are great to deal with and for street riding (depending on your version of street riding) expect a minimum of 20,000km, some of the riders in our group have clocked up over 30,000km on a set of Metal Gear sprockets. Prices are competitive, products are high quality and their service is great which is why I go with them. No, I don't work for them or have an interest in the company I just like good parts and not dealing with muppets.

                      Is there a typo? Is one of those 'higher's supposed to be 'lower?

                      Is it auto suggest? (You wouldn't believe what it wanted to change my 'higher's to ( an Austrian corporal of 20th century fame!)

                        Yeah, its a bit confusing because its out of order. Adding teeth to the rear lowers the final drive ratio, so:

                        Stock (630) 15/41 = 2.7333 (GSX750SZ)
                        520 17/46 = 2.7059 = higher ratio than stock 750
                        520 17/47 = 2.7647 = lower ratio than stock 750
                        520 17/48 = 2.8235 = lower ratio than stock 750
                        Stock (630) 15/42 = 2.8 (GSX1100SZ)

                            Two different Kats, the 51 tooth rear sprocket Kat has a custom chrome-moly swingarm that is a copy of OEM steel swinger.


                            This is the shaved down ally swinger on the project Kat with hollow axle, titanium bolts, aluminium chain adjusters, carbon chain guard, 520 chain and aluminium 48 T sprocket.

                              Hi Darryl, I found these in the parts box, thought the diameter of OEM 1100 Kat sprockets may be of interest regarding swinger clearance while you are comparing 520 sprocket diameter for your 750. The 750 and 1100 have different tooth count but pretty close.

                              630 42 T = 263 mm diameter.
