I have a set of K&N pods that I picked up for a decent price, so I tried them out without the jet kit and it wasnt too good. I am hoping to get the jet kit installed and run the pods when my rebuild is done.

When I went with the DynoJet Stage 3 kit every single person I spoke to said that was the way to go and the bike runs perfectly after mild setup/adjusting.Last edited by Guest; 11-17-2008, 05:59 PM.

THANK YOU !!! I whole heartily agree. I hate the OEM air box. ACK-PUKE !! These big motors need to breath !!!

Could be that's all they knew? FactoryPro doesn't force a drill out of the slide lift hole for the CV carbs but I don't know the effectual difference between the two kits.

I've ALWAYS found the carburetion to be smoother on bikes I put Factory kits in versus Dynojet. I know the needles are better & easier to tune where in the past some of the Dynojet needles were a NIGHTMARE to tune! Those of you in the know can relate about trying to remove a flat spot like on the 2 barrel 550s from 83-86 & the GSXR 750s in 88 & 89! I also liked that Mark used MIKUNI jets instead of those ANNOYING wrong sized Dynojet jets! Take it for what it's worth, Ray.

Who's got mine?
I am still lookng for an 1100L airbox 1980 version. Several folks have offered one but it has never been the right one. The 1980L has a two piece box. One to house air filter the other to aatch to carbs. I have one for a 1980 750L but as you might imagine the front part don't work but I think the back looks like it will.

All I know is my DynoJet Stage 3 kit was very easy to setup and tune. The carbs were properly disassembled, cleaned & gone through before the install. All new gaskets & rubber across the 4, boots had a good seal & carbs were synched before & after the install.
I had help from firstimer & the GSR which was a huge positive. I only had to richen it one notch and that was it. No dead spots, idles perfectly and the bike loves them.
You just have to know what parts of the kit to use, and thats where the GSR was a huge help.

Pod Filter dilemma
I recently resurrected an 83 1100E from barn state. I tried a cheapie set of conical pod filters and absolutely could not get it to run right. Jetted perfectly (Dyna Stage III with a Kerker pipe and Dyna ignition) with the filters off, but could not get it to work with them on. I broke down and popped the bucks for a set of genuine K&N ovals and had it screaming in about three tries. Have been getting perfect plug checks ever since.

The only type of carbs that work with pods are the slide carbs. The ones with the diaphrams, the ones used in later model bikes will not work with pods. So if you have a 77 or 78 gs the pods will work, as they will with any other mechanical slide style carbs. The VM carbs absolutly work with pods.
