Slider calipers with the pistons on the outside are what I'm using.

Ran into a problem. You guys may want to think about this when you do your swap.
I first ran this setup with stock springs. It squashed 'em in short order.
Switched to progressives, and ran 20wt oil. It rode kind of harsh, but I lived with it and it held together.
When I went to 15 wt fork oil, It blew a seal within a couple weeks. The new seals had not been in there more than 9 months. (yes, they were installed correctly)
Verdict: Too much sag. With the progressives and no spacers, the forks were bottoming out on hard stops. Granted, they gave a plush ride with no spacers, but they were no match for the extra weight transfer of the super duty brakes.
Depending on you weight, you'll have to start with a 1/2" spacer at the very least.Last edited by Guest; 08-28-2008, 10:22 AM.

I have about 1/2" on the skunk & it seems fine so far. I'm 165 though. 15w oil.

Little bit of a drunk post but, whatever.
Was looking to do this brake mod and get some better braking with the steel lines I'm gonna order soon. It looks as the I was in a hurry on Ebay and bought the wrong calipers. F#$k!!!!
I bought a set from a 1994 Kawa ZX6 Ninja. Didn't notice that they're a 4 piston setup. I got em at a good price regardless. I'll take a look this weekend, and mock them up to see if they'll work. If so, I'll post the progress, fab work, and end result. If they work, then it's another mod to ad to the list. If not....I'll paint em', rebuild em' and sell em' for twice the price.
I'll keep you posted.

(on a more serious note, you going back to 20wt oil now?)

Again, for those thinking of doing this swap, read this thread carefully. Ask questions. Understand what you're doing BEFORE you start.
It only works if you use fork legs from a dual disk bike.
Rotors from a single disk bike.
And the correct calipers listed on the first page.
It's that simple. If you don't understand how, or why it works, read it again, ask questions or don't attempt it.
