Yeah I think if Pingel made them with a more positive stop it would be kinda' helpful. The one good thing is is that if you're close to the middle it should still put you in the "reserve" mode. But I too have done the look and double check also. When the bike starts sputtering and you are in a hurry it's hard to be sure.

Mine has a short 90 degree throw from on to off and has no reserve.

I specifically ordered it without reserve as I use mileage for fillups and do not wait until the bike starts sputtering in traffic to notify me its time to get fuel.

I was wondering if anyone here has run a Pingel, and I know they have, petcock on a stock bike such as a GS1100E or a Katana 1000 and if they noticed any performance increase due to the better fuel delivery. I'm considering this as one of the mods to my two bikes and wanted to see if it's worth the $100.00 per bike or if it's just hype.

They turn easily. No advantage in prformance.
I put one on my gs1100 when my stock valve went south. I also have one on my KZ1300 again because it turns very easily. I also was a bit aprehensive about the vacume valve price.
Yes the reserve is a feel by luck thing but not dificult.
Please dont get sucked into easy gains in perfprmance.
I also ride a harley and almost die from laughter at the bolt on power junk that those bikers pay top dollar for

Anybody know the part number for the pingle petcock for a 1977 GS750?

I can't say for sure on a '77 but on my '78 I ordered the 4211-AH with the A1702C adapter plate. The 4211 has the tube facing forward. Mine is hex but you might be able to also get a round one. Talk to the sales rep. they're very helpful.

I don't bother with reserve as my 1981 GS1000ST never came with a reserve position on the POS OEM petcock, so I have always had to rely on the (extremely conservative) OEM fuel gauge, but that's fine, I've never run out of gas, so no biggie.

Using the "mileage" system to determine when you need more gas is ok, but once again, be conservative, obviously city commuting, canyon racing or "two up" touring will reduce your fuel economy, so use that reduced gas mileage figure to estimate when you need a fillup, unless you like pushing 500+ pounds of bike. I like my pingel

I put on on my 1980 GS750E this winter. I agree on the lever moving easily but I did highly dislike the vacum one I had in its place.... I never have fuel feed problems now and I am slowly but surely learning where that Reserve sweet spot is on the valve.

Know its late but IMO after hooking my new one up to what I know know about it...I say it is well worth the money. I got the 6211-CH round with the corresponding adapter plate. No clearance problems with the stock airbox as I had read from some.

Pingel as a company is not the easiest to work with - I tried buying from them, but I was not impressed with their customer service.

Wow, totally opposite experience here. I called them about where I could buy a gasket for my adapter plate and he asked what my bike was and then sent me two gaskets in the mail no charge.
