1150 carbs for a 1166 motor?

1150 carbs for a 1166 motor?
I'm building up an 1166 for my GS1100EZ. 1150 carbs a good way to go? Should I just rejet my stock ones? Going with pod filters, cams and careful head work.

The 1150 was 1135cc's (I'm pretty sure) with a better head than the 1100, so it sounds like a pretty good match. But unless you can get a set of 1150 carbs real cheap I'd save my money for a set of 38mm CV flatslides from a GSXR750 or the Mikuni RS series. The 1150 carbs are 2mm larger but I don't think you'll notice enough of a difference to make it worth the trouble.

These are CV flatslides I'm talking about, so you still have the butterfly in the bore of the carbs but instead of the round slide that you have with the GS carbs you have a flat slide. I think it was '90-'92 that the 750 came with 38mm bores instead of the 36's on the 1100 and older 750's. Now the Canadian models may have used the 38's more extensively, so you may have a greater local selection than here in the States.

Cv flatslides were stock on the GSXr bikes from 1985 up.
If you are spending the money on a full build, do you bike justice and pick up a set of Rs smoothbores off ebay. They sell for around $300-400. I would think the Rs36's would be ideal. These carbs come fully tuneable, have an accellerator pump, and are simply fanastic. Combined with a Pingel dual outlet fuel valve, you have a system that will not let down the rest of the motor.
I have put a set of RS36's on my 1157cc Bandit 1200, all I can say is WOW.Well worth the investment.

If you are after good streetability for your bike, I would think that the 1150 carbs would work well. You would probably want to put a stage 3 dynojet kit on them.

38's are too much carb for that bike...Get a set of 36's from a GSXR up until 1991 I think. The RS's are better though but the GSXR carbs work great.

1150 carbs work perfectly on an 1166'd 1100, I have a set on my Katana, did not need to re-jet.

They behave like stock carbs, but open the topend up a little.
They are the stock carbs, just 2mm bigger.

A little off topic but does anyone on here have a set of these GSX-R Carbs on an 1150? Are there any hassles with the cables, air cleaners, jetting, etc? I keep hearing about this modification but would like to heat from someone who has done it already. TH

So what year model GSX-R carbs do I need to look for? Is there any clearance problems with the fuel tank, frame, side covers, etc? TH

No problems with clearance

So what is the bore size of these carbs? I have a set of 34 mm flat slides (I think that's what they are) off of a GSX-R ???? I was thinking that they should be 38mm carbs. TH
