    Jet Hot coatings

Has anyone had their headers coated by Jet Hot? Im about a half an inch away from sending mine off to be done but thought Id see if anyone has any experience with Jet Hot on M/C headers.

I had a set of headers done for a car about 8 years ago and they were excellent but Im not sure about the extreme exposure that a M/C header sees.

They did my dragbike sidewinder probably 10 years ago, and it still looks good after all this time. I sent a Buell pipe about 5 years ago and it was just as nice. Sold the bike to a neighbor and he is still running the pipe

Not them specifically, but I've had headers ceramic-coated and always been happy with the results.

great. im a little worried about longetivity on the road but my headrer being black needs alot of maintenance now and I would pay the cost if I could NOT remove and repaint twice a year.
I'll post some pics when its all done.

How much does that Jet Hot treatment cost? I wonder how it compares with the ceramic coating. Commodus, if you don't mind my asking, how much did you pay, and who did it?

Some performance gurus suggest that ceramic coated exhausts improve the thermal efficiency of an engine by preventing the header pipes from cooling too quickly.
The technical and product information on the "Jet Hot" link below contradicts this claim.

On another forum, the owner of a jeep shows evidence of slight discolouration of his Jet Hot coated headers after only 3 months of use.

They have several different types and thicknesses both smooth and textured. The stuff I had on my car headers was lusterous but not chromey. It did discolor a bit right at the flanges but it was a blue hue and looked ok. At that time there werent as many choices. The 1700 degree stuff is what Im thinking about now. It comes in black and it has a texture on the outside.
They want to charge me $285. plus shipping

I dont doubt the quality I just wonder about things like stone chips etc.

I believe its a metalic ceramic. and they say they do several stages that includes the inside.

That and the Yosh carbon fiber can I have will make it a maintenance free exhaust.

Oh, I thought Jet Hot was just a company that did ceramic coating, is it different?

I paid $300ish...I think...A powder coating company local to me (Kamloops, BC) did it. I think they're called Kamloops Powder Coating.

                  Jet hot

I used these guys a few years ago and they were great. The finish was good and the turnaround was quick. The work we were doing was for a short term project so I can't vouch for lengevity. I can say that a friend of mine called them and they told him that with the high miles that he puts on his bike, he should expect that the coating will only last about a year to a year and a half. I was shocked by this. Apparently the heat cycling will crack the ceramic. I don't know if they were covering themselves by underporomising or not. It seemd good that they were so honest. However, other people seem to have better experiences than what they told this guy to expect. The process cost me $150 for an inside and outside coating on new stainless pipes. They headers for a CBR600 so it was definitley a motorcycle type application.

Interesting price ranges. HPC just quoted me $227 + s/h + tax for their 1600 degree ceramic coating. That's outside & inside. About a 10 day turnaround time from their Arizona location. http://www.hpcoatings.com

The Speed Merchant gave me a price of $175 for a ceramic coating out & in. They send it out to a local shop.

I hope the quality doesn't go down as the price does. We'll see. I'm doing the local option.

Not sure but I think HPC and Jet Hot are the same. Marketed a little different.

In my experience, the ceramic coating is very durable in terms of resisting chips from gravel etc. thrown up by the wheel.....also shows minimal fading (I have the 'Artic Black' semi-gloss, done locally) after 3 years of use...... surprisingly, I found the coating was'nt as impervious to salt spray as they claim......do not park your bike without a rinse after riding on roads wet with melted snow ....luckily I discovered this the following day, and was able to prevent any significant damage to the coating, in the collector area of the system.

                        Tony.

Jet-Hot is close by, so I was able to go over and look at everything from drag racing and boat headers, to manifolds. I have had several bike headers done and have had no problems. They blast and prep the parts, of course, included in the price quote.

For that kind of money, wouldn't a new Jardine exhaust on-sale be a better deal?

I dont mean to sound condescending but its not always about money. The cheapest is never the best. Not that the Jardine system isnt good. Its great and on sale to boot but what would I do with my $300 carbon fiber yosh muffler? also, I really like the header I have. No problem oil and filter changes, it keeps the center stand usable and I already spent time and money tuning the collector length.

Besides, Its just money. i'll print more. Ha.
