78 GS750 carb swap

Is there a carb I can use other than the vm carbs that came stock? My mechanic told me to get some cv carbs off a later model 750 but I don't know if those will just bolt up or if I need something more than just the carbs. Any other carbs to look out for?

If you want to use cv carbs on a 2 valve 750, you'll need a head from an 80 or newer 850. The 77-79 750 head has intake ports that match the 26mm VM carbs. The 850 head is set up for 32mm CV carbs.

Why??? I like the VM carbs no expensive diaphram to go bad and when tuned properly they work quite well. Dan

I like vm's alot better than cv's. Just leave them, there made for that bike and will run perfect if there all cleaned and adjusted.
