We had another stick shift race along with the regular program. it was a good event. Went 497 red in the final. I guess if your not red lighting your not racing.
I picked up some VP gas to try it out. The only thing the distributor had was the motorsport 109. It's oxygenated. I also put an AF meter on the bike. I think the fuel leaned me out a tad and I went down one on the jetting. Ran 5.92 @115 and 9.42 @137. I might be a tad leaner than I should be. I'm like 12.8-13.6 right now. I'm going to have to do a little research on that.

That's what I've been using this year. I got my timing at 38 degrees and the motor likes it.
115 mph is really good.Last edited by RacingJake; 09-23-2007, 11:08 PM.1166cc 1/8 ET 6.09@111.88

We have a pretty good turnout for last weekends race. We rented the track on Friday before people started showing up for test. My neck is feeling much better so I took my flag bike up. It was having problems ever since I blew up my ignition. I shot gunned it this time and turned the boost off for the first pass. Everything looked real good. No signs of any stutter so I added some boost. The kid was up their watching as I put in one more turn into the waste gate. I told him, "watch this!" The run started out pretty normal, then the motor started to make a strange sound. I started to back it down and looked behind me and saw nothing but smoke. The kid said they thought the bike had exploded and was on fire. Looked like it started to go at about 1000' out. The EMTs headed for the body wagon. No one could see anything. Then the smoke cleared as my bike made the turn. Some relief I guess. Kid was worried I wouldn't be around to pit for him. LOL. It really was a surprise as I think it was only 18PSI or so. Bike was running around 160MPH when it happened so it could have been much worse. Back tire stayed dry. Blankets are a good thing.
Oil was everywhere. I was dripping in the stuff, like the head came off. There was a steady stream of oil coming from the exhaust. The motor was still running and I nursed her back. Hoping just the turbo gave out (but knowing all that oil didn't come from just the turbo) I pulled off the exhaust. Turbo was nice and tight. I think I am done riding for the year now. Will pull her apart tonight and see how bad things are. Doubt it's a gasket but you never know.
The rest of the night was not much better. We tried running the new nitrous bike. When it came out of the water box I noticed that the chain was very sloppy. Maybe 2" of play?! Back to the trailer. Place was packed so we waited in line for maybe an hour and a half to make the next attempt with the other bike. The bike would not shift. We went home, got some sleep and headed back for the big race. Things went smoother the second day. We had all four bikes make past the first round. A lot of very good racers came so it was a lot of fun. We slowly picked them off. Then the kids bike wouldn't shift. That put him out. Dad was the last one in. We made it to the finals with a bike from Il. Dad stepped up with a .506 or something and then the other guys bike wouldn't shift. That was the end of the first day.
Day two the kids bike shifted fine in the right, but would not shift in the left lane. It was a free for all and we keep bringing him up first in line to make sure he would run the right. We were doing pretty good and we got down to where they started the ladder. We just lucked out and people kept giving the kid the right. Dad and son made it into the finals. They decided to split but we ran them for fun. Dad gave him the right (no reason to do more damage to the bike) and the kid, who has beat him every race this year, fell asleep. .6 something light to dads mid 5. $2400 payout was not too bad. In stead of Subway we ate at a nice place and had some good food.
There was only one accident over all three days. I heard that a guy on a Busa hit the front breaks and came off. I guess he was fine and won the race. It was the quarters and he wanted to enter another bike to enter the finals but they don't allow that. So The guy who won the street E/T class lucked out with a bye.
I guess we had some ladies riding around nude on a golf cart but I was home sleeping and missed out on all the fun.

Dang....sounds like ya done it up good....let us know what went...
We're about done for the year ourselves...
But we went down to Bunker Hill Saturday since I qualified for their ROC and I wanted a shot at another Wally.....plus I could race in the regular Saturday race that evening...all for $35.00\\/
Well...did you ever have a day were it seemed like you forgot everything you knew about ridding one of these things....
First our starter quit on the cart....borrowed one...
First time run...hit the rev limiter in 2nd...never noticed the light blarin' at me...doh!
Second run was clean....5.66 with a .019 RT:-D
First round of the ROC....got out of the groove and while trying to stay out of the center, I hit the rev limiter again....lost about a .1 on the run, but still won by .001 since I treed the guy good....
OK...round two...guess I didn't get the shifter all the way down in 1st...left in 2nd....and lost.
Backed off it quick and the clutch smelled OK....so I went for a time run before the evening race to check it out.
She lost .03 off the 60' and .08 off the 1/8 mile time. So the clutch did take some damage....
I had new clutch plates, but.....I missed the Wally, it wasn't a points race, it wasn't a final, not much money involved....so I put her on the trailer and opened a beer...
We had a nice night watchin' the racing and helping a buddy with a dragster.:-D
This one time it felt right to quit.....
Here's to next year...\\/

I know what you mean. I always mess up if I haven't rode for a while. I had not been on the bike for about a month and a half and knew I would do some bone headed stuff so I turned everything down for the first pass of the night. I also did not want the thing to buck me if the ignition problem was still their. My neck is still not 100%. It must have been really slow because the guy who setup the track rental came over and asked if I had some major problem and if I was done for the night (I guess they weren't very impressed). They did not want to take my $$ if that was all I was going to do. LOL
I pulled her apart last night. It's not real pretty but better than I expected. The head gasket looks like silly putty (how old are you). It was stretched right into the cam chain galley and out the back of the motor. The engine became a great oil pump sending oil out the exhaust and out the head.
Jay, if you read this, I just wanted to thank your company for making me these wrist pins last year. The last two times I leaned out a motor, the wrist pins fused into the rods and ruined the cranks. These things came out like butter and there were no signs that they or the crank had ever seen any sort of stress. The pistons did not fair so well....

Did alittle test and tune tonight and on the second run I got a 6.09 not too bad so I make about 6 runs and now I'm down to only 1/2 gallon of gas. So I back off the timing to 28 degrees and open the nos bottle and figure what the heck I gotta try it sometime.
So I make a run and when I get the bike in 4th gear I hit the button, I could feel the bike pick up some mph, it was 113.92 so I make another run but this time I hit the button in 3rd and 4th too. Mph was 116.94 this time and et was 6.18 and I called it a night. Next time out I'll hit it in second then work down to a 1st gear hit. That should get me in the 5's at over 120 mph. I was only using a 36 shot of nos \\/1166cc 1/8 ET 6.09@111.88

That's getting it done. Your doing it the smart way! No need to crank it up the first time out.
I'll be sending you some positive 5 second 120MPH energy from the cold north...

Looks like we are done for the year....
Our Caprice lost oil pressure on the way home from the IHRA Div 5 Bracket Finals and the motor is toast....
Amy has one more race and it looks like she will be racing the Suburban...
As for the bike...unless we travel....we are done for this year....
So.....this is it....come on 2008!!\\/

Yep, its almost time for "whats going on in your basement this winter?" Was she racing the Chevy and made it to the finals?
I used to pull my bike with my little Lebaron. Even that little amount of weight made stopping the car a lot of fun.
Jake, I was looking forward to this full spray, 5 second pass!
I may get it out one more time if the weather holds off. This is not the sort of thing you want to see when you pull your head off...Last edited by Guest; 12-18-2008, 12:23 PM.

Wow Mark, looks like the head is lifting off the block enough to allow the copper gasket to fold over. Talk about pressure??
Are you using a fiber base gasketLast edited by RacingJake; 10-06-2007, 11:30 PM.1166cc 1/8 ET 6.09@111.88
