GSXR forks on the GS question ????

Okay , my GS1000 has early 86-87 GSXR forks on it. They are from the 750. Unfortunately the 750 forks don't handle the 1000 weight very well even after adding progressive springs inside. So now i have the GSXR 1100 forks from the same years 86- 87 but i now can't use the 750 wheel with those forks due to the 750 axle and bearings being a smaller. I figure i have two options . #1 find a 1100 axle, spacers, and bearings and install in the 750 wheel (not sure if that would work but i think the wheel between both models may be same size). #2 Since the 750 fork lowers are polished and look nice (and everything fits) maybe i could switch the internals from the 1100 to the 750 legs and not have to buy another axle etc. I would rather do #2 since i have the time right now and limited funds. Does anyone out there know about these?
The fork diameter is the same form the 750 and the 1100 (41mm).
Somebody please help me or steer me in the right direction as i want to ride this GS badly.
    Thanks, gs1000dude

Could adding a little more pre-load the 750 forks help any? I switched to a 600 katana fork assembly on my '83 750 and found they were too softly sprung, adding preload did the trick for me.
