    GS1oooE Improvements

    Hi, I'm at a crossroads, do I keep my old GS and try to improve the handling and performance, or trade for something newer. I'd prefer to keep the old girl so does anybody have any suggestions on any not to radical improvements I can make or any books or publications on a bit of tuning. Its a stock bike with CV carbs and original exhaust, handling is more important than power.

    Progressive fork springs, Pirelli Sport Demons & some of the new Vipex shocks when they become available?

    Pods, 4:1 & re-jet for inc BHP.

    Change in sprocket size if you want quicker acc?

    Just some thoughts.

      If yes.....buy a new bike. Keep the GS, and then get a dirt bike.......and a trike......or a Goldwing........

        Not everybody here is a fan of Racetech, but their straight rate springs and cartidge emulators work wonders for an old damper rod type front end.

        for the rear, IKON, Works (pricey), or as mentioned above, the new Vipex piggyback shocks when Brian gets them tested...see "Piggyback shocks" thread in this same "performance mods" forum.

        If you sell it, list it HERE first, so it has a chance to go to a good home. :-D

          Only you can answer if YOU should buy new or mod. However your bike is a good platform for modifications should you choose to do so.

            I have a hard time recommending something nobody's tried yet. ie, those VIPEX shocks. Although I'm eagerly awaiting a set myself! Until then, Progressive rear shocks, and front springs are the tried & true answer to improved handling.

            Martin, I know the GS1000 is plenty fast, just as she is. I would not do pods & pipes unless I really had the itch. I have 1 GS1000 I'm keeping bone stock, and 1 I'm making my hotrod! For my .02 I'd keep her stock, with the emphasis on KEEP!

              Sport Demons
              K&N pods
              V&H pipe
              Accel coils
              Dynojet Stage III
              Progressive front springs

              ...on my 80gs1000e, totally different bike performance wise.

                I have used the racetech springs and emulators, and removed the air valves on other old bikes, but not my GS.

                After all of the money I spent on the above parts and the time involved, I am thinking that the katana or gsxr front end swap that guys talk about is probably the way to go. (Unless, of course, you want it to look stock.)
