Bandit 1200 oil cooler mod?
I hear this is an easy match up to a GS1100E. Has anyone tried?

Check out BikeBandit.com and look at the fische for a bandit. It needs to have 14mm banjo fittings to connect to the engine block.

you may want to spend a few more bucks and get a earls cooler and lines especailly in the socal heat.
should set you back about 200 bucks.
got any more pics of the bike, any idea if it has a piston kit or after market carbs or anything fun like that?78 GS1000 Yosh replica racer project

It has the stock carbs don't know about the piston kit. Sucks gas like a pig, I love that Yosh pipe from that era. I put on new tires, clutch and corbin seat, been riding the hell out of it. Did the front fork seals, that was fun :-D
Earls oil cooler? Kit or random parts you have to put use? Any online sources?
I've beat my head trying to find a kit that was not over $500 that I did not have to import from UK.
Thanks,

take a look at these
and yes you will have to mix and match things.
Hi there, i rember you used a Earls cooler, and lines. Well I have been working on a gs1000 yosh replica for a while now, and have been running a lockhart cooler but that just died so i am going to bite the bullit and get a Earls.
So my questions for you are what size should i choose? I have a 11.2:1 yosh 1085 kit that i will install soon, and i will also have my head ported and run some hotter cams. While every thing is apart i will have the motor blasted and gun koted black to help cool it. I want to keep it as close to the original yosh as much as possable but am not sure on the size oil cooler to use(i think the 2"x2" 8.25" but not sure of anything eles.) I will also be riding this a great deal in Arizona average temp 75 - 95 degrees F and know better then to run a air cooled bike in 110 degree weather.
i am not sure what fittings i need or want, but i would like to run the braided line at least , probably order 8 feet of it so i can do up my 550 as well. I am currently running ntp 3/8 (the standard stuff) hose barbs and rubber fuel injector lines. I would also like to do some thing to protect the cooler from vibartions as well, how did you adress that and the mounting of it?
thanks for all your help,
ryan
WEll, where do I start. You can get the fitting sizes from my tech page. www.robwilton.com/tech.html.
go with the "wide Model" on this page http://www.amstreetrod.com/temp-a-cure.php4
you can go as many rows as you like. I run a 10 row but its not that hot here. you may want to run 13 or even 16 rows.
I did not rubber mount my cooler no.

This has been helpfull :-D Thanks!
I already have an 1150 oil filter over ive had now for a year
The only gray area I have now is a thermostat.
Guess I would have to mount a in-line thermostat?
If you just let it run, it would be too cool on cool days and never warm up.
Any thoughts?

i just don't run a thermostat, i wouldn't worry about one, most of the guys around here don't run them either. just take a extra 5 minutes to let the bike warm up more and run synthetic oil, you should be fine.78 GS1000 Yosh replica racer project

Just curious.... what temps are you seeing on the gauge when you think it runs too hot. An 1150 cooler with the filter cover will probably be all you need to keep oil temps at a sane level (if your bike is still stock in terms of the bore) ...a little over 100C/212F is likely considered normal operating temperature...up here, with the 1150 set-up, even when ambient temps are at 90F my bike will not run much hotter than around 220F (the 9 o'clock) position on the temp gauge. Of course, if you get stuck in a traffic jam , all bets are off. My last oil change I went with 1/3 Amsoil synthetic and the rest Castrol, and now I am hard-pressed to even reach 100C...not really a good thing.

Using the stock guage, my guess is between 250F-290F on a hot day. It's hard to tell. its well past the 210F mark but below 320.
10 to 11 o'clock position! Then stop & go I get worried
The bike starts to cry
Forgot, 1150 coolers you can't find or are all beat up.
I want something that looks good & works goodLast edited by Guest; 07-25-2007, 11:00 PM.

"Wow...that's hot" if you don't mind a Paris Hilton quote . I suspect you may find some Yosh goodies in that motor...though one would think he woulda done the cooler mod as well, to take care of the excess heat. There were a couple Lockhart cooler set-ups (with thermostats) for the 1100E on ebay last week...they are gone now, but there is a Derale currently on auction.....probably not as cool as a Bandit item though (no pun intended).
In your case, you probably need not bother with a thermostat...one thing to keep in mind when selecting cooler size, is the clearance from the bottom edge of the cooler to the front fender....with my GS1150 cooler (quite compact) the cooler would make light contact with the fender under hard braking.... Progressive Suspension fork springs took care of that problem . Sharp-looking bike, BTW!

Yep that's it. Just need that combo'd with 14mm 1.5 banjo bolt and I'm done. I emailed one website that has the "earl's" product to see what they recomend. Maybe there is another connection, but that's what suzuki used.
