    converting to 1100 swingarm on 77 GS750 ??

I've now got an 1100 swingarm to install on my 750B, but not sure if a swingarm bolt from the 1100 is needed or if I need to find needle bearings that have the correct OD to fit the swingarm and the correct ID to fit the bolt off the 750.
Can anyone advise on what I need to do to complete this conversion?

    Hi

Just installed a '88 swingarm, same bearing size as the gs1100 swingarm.
The bearings from the 1100 are larger, so either you have to make a bushing for the axle to fit the bearing and use the 750 axle, or increase the frame holes to fit the 1100 axle.

You are saying "axle" & I was referring to the needle bearings in the swingarm pivot. With your post, I now have two questions.
Am I going to have the same problem with the rear axle when installing the wheel? Do I actually need a rear axle and a swingarm bolt from an 1100?

Does anyone have an spare 1100 swingarm bolt & an axle?

        converting to 1100 swingarm on 77 GS750 ??

as far as I know, correct me if i'm wrong, the bearings of an 1100 have a larger outside and a larger inside diameter.
I used the original axle from the '88 swingarm, and modified the swingarm-holes of the frame.
you can use the original swingarm axle, this will fit the frame, but not the 1100 bearings, so you need to make an "adapter" bushing to fit the bigger bearings.
as far as I know the rear wheel isn't a problem.

Okay, I'll deal with the rear wheel when I have to put it on. It should be straightforward.

Yes, I am double checking, but bearings (I think) are:
          22 ID x 29 OD x 30 L on the 750B
          25 ID x 33 OD x 30 L on the 1100

          I would need a needle bearing 22 ID x 33 OD x 30 L for the exact bearing.

All Balls doesn't show it on their site, & I have the local indy dealer checking his supplier for me. Otherwise, I'll need a sleeve, or an 1100 swingarm bolt (whichever is cheaper & easier)

I have been asking around for a swingarm bolt. I bought a 1982 GS1100E swingarm that was supposed to come with the pivot bolt but arrived without it.

My plan was to have a sleeve made to put into the GS1100E swingarm holes to reduced the inside diameter down to the size that the 1981 GS750E one is so that I don't have to modify the frame and can always reorder GS750E bearings.

Anyone have other suggestions or agree that this would make sense ?

Good thought, I was actually thinking of making the sleeves to fit between the 1100 bearing and the 750 bolt, but I guess either way might work.

Buy the pivot bolt new from Suzuki

about 30 bucks. Sounds easier than modifying something

I bought an 1100 swingarm to put on my 750 but it would of been too much of a hassle for something only about 2lbs lighter. The swingarm bolt was a problem and I didnt want to drill my frame holes. The swingarm was a longer so my shocks had different angles and the bike would be lower. I also had a problem with the rear axle. It was wider so I would of had make spacers, I think the axle slots were bigger too. I dont think it look good on there anyways. So I sold it for what I paid for it. Ill stick to the steel swingarm

Good point and I considered doing that.

I wanted to stick with the original bearings and all (at least until I was sure everything else worked out OK).

I was also hesitant to drill the frame.

                      1100 to 750 swingarm

Yes, no prob. just drill out the frame and install the larger bearings and long bolt. Took me an hour. Be carefull to drill straight. Monte

Sounds like the simpler solution then... Thanks

an 81 750e swingarm pivot bolt is smaller than the 1100??

The kats are the same 82/83 (16mm). IF you need an 1100 pivot bolt I have one
