    Questions on bore and cam kits...

    Ok so my new stock motor showed up today. Picking it up tomorrow. As such, it's time to start shopping for my ingredients for my bore kit motor. Looking at the Wiseco kit for the bore job. But Bill suggested getting degreeable cams. Looking at the Web cams site. Assuming that if i do the bore kit, im going to want to go with the .395 and get the valve spring kit as well. What am i expecting to spend? Should i go with a different cam or are these what's going to work best given the bore set up i am planning (844cc kit for the 8valve 750) any suggestions, tips or tricks? Thanks!

    I wasn't aware that they even still made cams for these old beasts, well for anything other than the 1000 that is. As with cars, getting the highest lift cam isn't always the way to go. I'd suggest getting a nice cam that won't kill your idle or anything of that sort. Something just a tad boring ya know? Whats the highest lift you can buy?

      Well that .395 is said (according to Web's site) to be used in conjunction with bore kits and heavy duty springs. They have a step down street grind for stock motors, and then they get rediculous with them for full on race applications and what not. Keep in mind the 750 and 1000 motor (8valvers) are the same head and bottom end, bigger bore and stroke i think.

        Hmm well sounds like the 395 is in the middle of stock and race. Have you found out any prices yet?

          Naw...i was kinda lookin to see what some of the guys here have paid... i have a feeling they wont be cheap. Which is ok, as like i said i expect to drop a grand on the upgrade.

            How about dropping the jugs off of a 1000 onto the bottom end. Seeing as they're the same and all. You should land somewhere in the middle of both displacements because you wouldn't be screwing with the stroke at all. I dunno just a thought. I'm a hotrodder. I do things like this as cheaply as possible lol

              I dont think they quite bolt up the same, but i could be wrong. Im pretty sure they dont tho, cos i vaugely remember asking about that before i think and was more or less told im an idiot..lol

                Well the 750 has to share a bottom end with something. Maybe the 850. Either way. Some other engine's jugs should drop on to it.

                      Yeah i think Brian (BWringer) is lookin for a 750 motor to put the 850 top end on, and that takes some kanoodling...but apparently can be done fairly easily. Personally, i think the bore will be easier. I dunno tho as ive never done either on these motors..lol

                        You can fit 850 jugs onto your 750 crankcase with minor relief grinding/machining.
                        The advantage of this is you get 844cc and still retain a decent liner thickness (3mm). The 850 head chamber size/shape will also be benefical.
                        The only draw back being you will need to buy O/S Wiseco pistons and you will need to match bore to the used jugs. New O/S stock 850 pistons will also work, but your CR will only be 8.8-1 instead of 10.25-1.
                        These engines respond well to increased CR!!

                          Is there more of an advantage to this method rather than the Wiseco bore kit and what not? I mean i have all the other parts already, including a spare 750 head...to do that i would have to find the 850 head, jugs and cams, and that would cost as much as a bore kit, and it would be used...With the bore kit at least im getting new pistons, rings and wristpins, and id be purchasing new cams and sprockets and valve springs im assuming. I dunno, what's your opinion 49er? Im just looking for good suggestions, as this will be a first for me. I had a CB with an 836 kit in it, but i didnt do it.

                            Mine is 8.6:1 stock. I didn't know they made these bikes with compression higher than that.

                              You only need the camshaft sprockets slotted to degree in the cams. You can put them on the stock cams or maybe some high lift. I would go with the cams that only need the HD springs so basically drop in. Just checked the Webcam websight and the .395 look right. You will lose a little bottom end smoothness but the powerband will rip your arms off.:-D
                              I would also find a good 4-1 pipe maybe a V&H and K&N pod filters.
