    GS1000/1100/1150 Clutch Hub Upgrade

One of my winter projects is to upgrade my 1979 GS1000 clutch hub since I found several loose TV springs. We all know APE, Falicon & V&H can perform this modification for approximately $300 in today's shrinking dollar.

While googling, "GS1000 Clutch Hub" I found a link to Schnitz Racing; they offer the Falicon GS1000 Clutch Hub Kit for $159.00 along with GS1100 & GS1150 kits for approximately $165.00. The catch is you need a Machine Shop to perform the work which excludes about 99% of us.

I contacted Schnitz Racing on Friday and they stated they would send my Clutch Hub to Falicon and have them perform the Clutch Hub modification and charge me approximately $50.

Does anyone have any prior experience with Schnitz Racing & this modification? It seems like the price is right.

Here's a web page I found detailing this too:

That's certainly an interesting article and it makes me believe all you need is someone to Tig Weld the clutch hub assembly back to together. Personally, I would spring for the Clutch Hub Kit and avoid putting washers behind the sacked out springs.

What about balancing the finished assembly?

      Thanks

Personally I wouldn't bother on a street bike because it's after the primary gear reduction (i.e. 1/4 or so of the engine speed). Also the distance from the center of the shaft to the center of the springs is fairly small so effects will tend to be less.

I'm planning on doing the same thing. I'll let you know how it goes in a couple of months.

I believe that article is written by one of our Aussie GSR brothers, who has documented a lot of the mods performed on his Kat. Interesting to note, the Falicon kit prices vary quite a bit by vendor.....Mike probably shopped around, and provided a link with the most reasonable price found...

          Falicon

          Part #
          Description
          Price

          118-005 Clutch Hub Rebuilt Kit Kawasaki KZ900/1000 (springs&rivets) 64.95
          118-102 Clutch Hub Rebuilt Kit Suzuki GS1100 80-82 (springs/rivets/plate) 114.00
          118-101 Clutch Hub Rebuilt Kit Suzuki GS1000 (springs/rivets/plate) 114.50
          118-104 Clutch Hub Rebuilt Kit Suzuki GS1100 83 (springs/rivets/plate) 114.50

As an aside, I think Falicon balances the finished part after machining....I saw one listed on ebay last week (BIN $130.00, IIRC), and the seller mentioned that it had been balanced....the pic showed some material removed in one area of the basket by spot-facing with a drill.
If you can wait, these HD clutch baskets appear on ebay quite frequently for the 1100's/1150's....not sure if the 1000 items do too, though.

Make sure you don't get an 1150 gear. It has a different number of teeth and won't fit. The basket will, but not the gear.

I contacted S&K Racing since the price was so much cheaper . . .and unfortunately got the following reply

              Steve,

Kit is the same but the price on my web site is incorrect. Current price with shipping to you is $160.00.
Sorry about the inaccurate info on my web site.

#-o#-o SK Racing could use a few of them.
Ebay is probably a good bet, and posting in the 'Parts Wanted' section might help too.

Yes, it WAS me who got it & trust me, his stuff is ALWAYS as nice as he tells it! I am suzukiray everywhere but here due to a lost email address I previously had that made me have to change my name to get back on here. Ray.
