The handling and my balance on the bike is soooooooooo much better. And the new bars are black to match the bike; an added bonus. Feels like a new bike. Now if I can just find a cheap headlight bucket and mounting bracket I could get that fat-bastard fairing off there...

New handlebars- thanks for the help
I finally got around to putting handlebars on my '80 GS850G. Thanks to those who answered my questions about the project in another thread. I switched from large foam grips on a fu manchu looking handlebar to rubber Superbike grips on the stock bars from a '06 Vstrom that a friend gave me. Before and after:

You can probably get just about any GS headlight bucket and mount brackets to fit except for the '82-'83 1100E. Just match up the fork tube diameter and you're good to go.
