Octane is measured differently in the US/Canada vs the rest of the world. When you hear our octane numbers add 5 or so.

For example, CA gets 87, 89, 91. Some states also get 93. Our 93 isn't any more prone to preignition than your 98, it's just labeled differently.

gday mate, im trying to figure out why the ron rating would be differant in your part of the world,as far as i was aware it is a given value wherever, ie, 100 octane avgas is a minimum standard for petrol aircraft, all over the world, otherwise you could have plains dropping out the sky, over here we have 91 unleaded = crap fuel, 95 = premium, 98 = for higher comp, motors, and some servos sell 100 = race fuel, regards

Over here they label them as(Ron+Mon)/2 instead of just Ron, hence the difference.

            f*ck if I know.
Same reason they sell it in gallons not liters.

Just to make it more confusing, Avgas like you're talking about is rated MON just like yours, so our 100LL avgas is the same as yours, but our 92 octane pump gas is like your 98 octane pump.

            Whatever.

This may be a bit late, but I've got a similar leak on my bike. It's the left side engine cover gasket that's leaking. Oils the front, instep, and sole of my left boot pretty well... It also manages to coat the gear shifter lever, peg, and both stands.

I have a full Athena gasket kit on the way. I'll tackle the left engine cover and valve cover gasket first to see if it gets me oil tight. If not, I'll be doing a teardown.
