This $60 will save your life!
I just put a Stebel compact air horn on my bike (I did my 92' FZR1000, but will do my GS750 next) and loud doesn't do the horn justice. My FZR thinks it is a Peterbuilt! I followed the factory instructions, ran a separate ground and power right to the battery, used the relay, factory horn button and wal-lah. It is freaking insane! I just demo blasted it in my garage (big mistake) and I now have a headache. It will save me from some roadtard for sure! I think EVERYONE you know needs to look into one of these. I'd pay more than double what I did. I found the cheapest one at www.twistedthrottle.com $51.35 including shipping to my in FL. Part#Stebel 11135:-DTags: None

Good call.
I purchased 2 of the stebel electric horns and they go 3 less decibels then yours at 136. I have been so happy with them, because when you want someone to know your there, they work. Money well spent.
Yeah, the honking inside the garage is not a good idea.....8-[

Ah,Poot, I'm a fan o the Aldous. Unfortunately, I'm also living proof that TV is soma for the masses. Then again, sometimes the internet starts to feel that way. The difference is that the only interactive aspect of TV is when you start yelling back at the characters.

The bad boy is on sale at harbor freight for 34.99
(the db listed at harbor freight is lower ... if you go to stebels page, they list two values ... the one in Stebel's ads is the one at 4 inches, everybody else uses 1 or 2 meters ... deceptive advertizing)

Picked up a Badboy from HF over the weekend. Mine came with the relay. Need to figure out where to mount it now.
The horns on my 850 are pretty lame and block airflow to the head. Going to mount the new horn out of the way...somewhere. Thinking about down inside one of the crash guards.
Thanks for the tip about the horn.Last edited by Nessism; 05-12-2008, 08:31 PM.Ed

A buddy almost lost his butt when a car pulled right out in front of his TLR 1000, he heard my horn before that happened and he said he's definately going to put one on now. I love the look I get when people hear the air horn on a bike!

Pulled my Badboy horn out of the package this morning and noticed the two round plastic caps located near the physical center of the horn body are loosely attached and rattle around a lot. Can't see putting this thing on the bike in this condition. Photos of the Stebel branded horns have similar looking plastic caps but I'm wondering if the caps on those horns rattle around? Anyone know what's under the caps and whether or not they can be removed?Ed

We design, make, and sell protective gear and equipment for people who ride motorcycles and scooters. We care about motorcycling, quality, value, and customer service.
I was able to fit them in the stock location on my '79 850 by flipping the stock horn bracket over and using the Fiamm bracket screwed into the top. They're really loud and have no more parts than necessary.

Thanks for the horn suggestion but considering I already bought this thing and opened the package...
Talked to Wolo tech support today and they told me to put a dab of silicone on the plastic cap so it won't rattle. They also told me the caps could come off entirely. Going to try the silicone first.Ed

Darn..... I was just cruising about on the big yellow auction site and found these....
I replaced another set if Nikko rectangular horns that didn't work. At least they work, and are pretty good. Other than the pulsating that I get from what I fear is a weak stator.... Ugh. But they're really shiny.:-D

I went down to Harbor Freight and bought one of these today. My side covers were also a little loose, but a couple of spots of super glue fixed that problem. My horn also came with the relay and a nice set of instructions for installing the horn on a motorcycle (made it very easy).
I installed the horn in about an hour and used the preexisting tapped holes in the front of the frame. This horn is LOUD! I installed air horns from a different company a couple of years ago in my jeep, and these seem louder and have a better tone than those had.
All in all, I'm happy with them for the price I paid ($34.95).
Here's how it looks on the 550:

Air Horn
The only problem with sounding like a Mack truck is, the other driver may actually be looking for the Mack truck that honked at him and not see you on your bike. I replaced the O.E.M. meep meep horns years ago with a pair of FIAMM automobile horns and they were definitely an improvement, but I have noticed that drivers sometimes seem confused as to the source of my warning.
Horns are useful but the best way to stay out of trouble is to ride like no one can see you and, use your brake/throttle to seperate hazards. If you have to honk at someone its often too late. The best safety device on your bike is between your ears.

Been having a hard time finding a clean place to mount my Badboy horn. Want to get it out of the airflow to the engine since my bike already has an oil cooler blocking air to the head.
Made a bracket to install it in place of the helmet lock on the left rear of my 850. Hate to loose the lock but can't find a more suitable place yet.
Going to hook it up tonight.Ed
