Yes I've been looking into it, thought I'd cracked it but came up short at the last hurdle!

The 550 ones look good on my skunk but newer ones would look better on my 80 (plus if I was riding anywhere wet I'd like the newer ones too...)

I also plan to drill the set of solid ones I have for my 80 if necessary.

Modern ones would be a lot lighter.

Mark's also looking into it now too.

Ok I have a limited number of the brackets available now, enough to satisfy current demand so far so don't worry.

Will do a proper post on confirmed pricing, payment options etc soon.

It's unlikely that I will be able to do them at the price of this first run again (although I will be able to get more of them) so get in early if you want some.

      More info soon.

Are those extras beyond what people requested in this thread, or do we all have to head over there to buy them?

will those brackets work on my 82 650 G? mine is a dual disc but still has those wooden feel single piston calipers. Seems like I read somewhere that late 80s early 90 GSXR 750
calipers would work with the right kind of bracket. haven't tried it but if anybody reading this has, let me know. if they will work on my bike put me down for a pair.

Yes they will work on your 650G as far as I know. No reason why not. Ad in the For Sale section. The brakes should be the same as the ones on my 1000G.

                    PM with details sent.

I will be taking delivery of some of the required bolts, nuts & washers this week (with luck).

Extra $6. You effectively get the washers, nuts & shipping free. (These fine thread bolts cost about $1 each from everywhere that I have found them).

                          Received My Brackets

Hi SALTY. I received my brackets yesterday for the conversion. I was surprised they were not more substantial. They looked to me to be lightweight, but obviously will work OK. Looks good. Just waiting on the Kawa left hand caliper to arrive from the U.S. to do the conversion. I am only doing one side at this stage as it is going on a 550 and should improve braking enough for me and will save changing the right hand side fork leg.
                          Cheers.
                          Thanks again.

                            Hi Don,

Glad they arrived ok.... hope they work on your 550... I thought all 550's use the bigger disk as standard meaning that the caliper will sit in a different position to the dual disks. I didn't realise you were fitting to a 550. You may have to change the fork leg over to one from a dual disk model to get it to work.

In Jeff's original post he clearly states that it won't work on a single disk model. Anyway, hope he's wrong in your case.

As to the weight, they are aluminium so that is why they are so light. They are 8mm thick which should be ample. Most of the force is a "tearing" force as the disk tries to pull the caliper round in the direction of travel. All the torque is applied on an invisible pivot point somewhere between the three holes. There is no real force side to side (that could lead to fatigue with aluminium). Having said that, if you were to put those in a vice & try to bend them you would find it would take a lot more force than you think....

Anyway, good luck & hope it all works out to your plan.

                            Cheers,

                            Dan

[quote=8trackmind;818574]The rotor needs to be off of a GS that only had a single front disk.
                              (they are larger. 300mm)
Not sure which UK models had the single disk.
On the US models, the 78 to 80 GS550 mag or spoke rim would be the most common.
Over here the GS's that used the spoke rims all had the single disk so the disk from a '78 GS750, '79 GS750 '78 GS1000 '79 GS1000 will work as well. (It's the same disk used on the 550)

Hey Dan, above is a quote from 8TRACKMIND in your thread, post #12, he seems to be saying that the large single disc is the one to use (300mm), this is what I have on my 550. So what don't you think will fit, was your bracket designed for the twin rotor fork leg with the smaller discs. Did those fork legs have a different bolt spacing than the single rotor fork leg.

What are the differences and why won't this setup fit on my '77 GS550 fork leg. Is it that the pads will not line up woth my disc. I am confused. Please help. ANYONE.

                              Cheers
                              Don

The fork leg has to be off of a dual disk bike.
(the caliper mounting boss is lower)

What you have will not work properly. The caliper will mount roughly 12mm too high, meaning the top of the brake pad will not contact the rotor.
