    ok i understand that k&n pods and 4 to 1 mac exhaust will reduce gas mileage but increase performance and rejetting helps gas mileage a little bit but it just makes me curious on why a stock but much bigger engine can get 50 mpg while i'm lucky to get 25. 1100G 50mpg > '78 gs750 25mpg. why does this happen lol

      I don't know but that is the math I am getting, and I run this bike very easy possibly that is why I get better milage... I don't know, but I'm not going to lie about something like gas milage...

        Because your 750 isn't even close to being tuned right.
        They can get 50.

            Depends on what's wrong with it.
            Stock ones can get 50 if all is perfect.

              well idk wats wrong lol, it just has k&n pods, 4 to 1 and its needs carb jetting and sync idk anyhting else

                Start in the beginning, there are probably 20 different things that will effect mileage if they are not right.
                Tire pressure, brake drag, ignition timing, cam timing, valve clearances, needle position, float levels, pilot fuel adjustments, overweight rider, airscrew adjustments, clogged exhaust, clogged air filter, airbox leaks, worn spark plugs, worn points, bad spark plug wires, loose nut between the handlebars, idle too high, clutch slipping, worn chain, incorrect sprockets, mis-aligned rear wheel, worn wheel bearings, I'm sure you can think of a lot more if you think a while.

                All the little things seem to multiply.

                    well me and my grandfather completely stripped down my bike replaced almost everything (I personally signed the paychecks for every empolyee at bike bandit for 3 months) it was necisity because the bike sat for... 15 years... sigh before I got it... so it is basically brand new...

                          OK interesting add-on, I went on a 111 mile ride on my 81 GS850L with V&H 4-1 and K&N for stock air box, #115 main jets. It was very windy, hilly and twisty on my route. I used 2.56 imperial gallons or 3.07 US gallons. That works out to 36.4 mi/us.gal or 43.7mi/imp.gal or even 6.5L/100Km for us Canadians. I passed a couple people and averaged around 60mph. I was on fumes when I got home but good ride. Is this a good mileage for an 850?? Also I know the bike came stock with the 115 main jets, but when I got it, it was choking on fuel so I opened up the air passages with the exhaust system and the one piece K&N and wow, my bike runs way better. I would like to know if I could get better than what I have now with one size bigger mains, but if I am close enough now I don't want to fool around and waste money. About the idle mix screws, do you guys really think they make much of a difference in mileage. I thought the screws were only really active until about 1/4 throttle opening or less. I know my bike is real fussy until it is nearly exact operating temp. It won't accelerate when cold so I suspect I am a shade on the lean side.

                          Hope this helps with gas mileage figures for others and help yamahafella too.
