    82 gs 750 into a drag bike ?

    what are some things i should look at to turn a 82 gs750 into a drag bike
    ie what is a good wheel base
    i dont want to go to radical right a way motor wise so should a slick wait till more horse power happens?
    with the stock engine in a lighter bike what kinda time should i expect

    looks like a lot of ppl run the dyna electronic ing system are they a good system?

    the 2 reasons i chose the 750 instead of the bigger ones is i had a 750 that i chopped up turned it into a "crusier" used a lot of hd parts then only put 60 miles on it that was 2 years ago(i posted pics here,i cant remember what my user name was)

    and buddy has a older 750 we had started to make a drag bike out of
    and to stay cometitive with him stick with the 750

    a stock 750 motor in a lighter frame, you are probably looking at enough time to boil an egg for a quarter mile pass........lol

      Getting any performance parts for the '82 GS750 is going to be difficult. They were a great motor but were overshadowed by the GS1100E and you could get a 1100 for only a few hundred dollars more back then.

      You can expect mid 12 second quarter mile times from the 750. The 1100, in comparison would deliver low 11 second times.

        Leave it stock and just have some fun with it. If you prefer to have a bar on it, Pingle sells a great one for a good price. Trust me, the simple/cheap method is the way to go, when I started to spend more (aka top gas type) it took all the fun out of it.

          I'm fairly certain you could pick up a ready to run, 9-10 second, 1100 drag bike with slick and bars, all ready to go, for less than you would spend making one out of the 750...

          I got mine for $4500....and don't forget support stuff, trailer, leathers, etc.

            you cannot be serious wanting to drag race a standard 750 motor! why? even if you put it in the trickest frame available you will get blown away by anything bigger than a modern day 250. if you are serious about it BUY A BIGGER ENGINE!
            mid 12's for a stock 750 and low 11's for a stock 1100 is very debatable, get real guys!

              Bike in my avatar ('83 750) went 11.80's with just a pipe, pods and jetting.

                just cause they are 30 year old bikes doesnt mean that they are not capable...

                i have schooled many of my friends on brand new GSXR's and CBR's, they are faster bikes yes, but its all in the rider...

                maybe the ol' 750 is all the arse he wants for a drag bike? not everyone wants to commit suicide on a 6 second motorcycle......

                    What is there to debate? I've owned both, the 1100 I've owned for 27 years. I dragged raced it in 1981 and it ran low 11 second 1/4 miles. There was one guy who added a Kerker header and rejetted and was dipping well into the 10's. He weighed 105 lbs dripping wet I have to admit. All the magazines back then had the 1100 going into the low 11's.

                      ok, im surprised at that but i guess i'll have to believe you. so whats the 1/4 mile time for a standard gs1000?

                        There was a guy running at the local track with a GS750 when I first started racing. He had a small blower on it. I think I have some pictures of it.

                        First, I assume your running E/T, so don't listen to these people. It has nothing to do with the times or speed you run. Its all about doing the same thing over and over.

                        I would start by just taking the bike as for the most part. Change out the parts that are bad, tires, chain, sprokets, cables, etc. Next, get a blanket for it. If you have the stock air box, your good to go. If you have pods, just route the vent to a plastic pop bottle with some paper in the bottom and tie it inside the frame rails. I doubt you will need a dead man switch for the speeds and times you will be running. Next, like Bob wrote, make sure you have good gear. Boots, gloves, etc. The tracks may let you run with blue jeans, but I would recommend a zip together suit. I see used suits on eBay often.

                        Then go out and have some fun. You will have to play with the tire pressure and figure out what RPM to launch at. Not something you can ask. You need to figure this out on your own. If you decide its something you want to do then start making changes.

                        I have a friend who races a home made (really home made) bike that is based on a 650 twin and can run in the mid 10's. He must weigh at least 220. A lot of mods and very low budget. He uses a small turbo and nitrous to get it going. I'm sure you could make the 750 sing with just a small turbo. Again, it's not about the speed or low E/T.

                        If you decide to run an index class, your going to need something quicker.

                            cool, so mine with extended arm, bored to 1085cc with hot cams and pods with a harris race exhaust and nitrous should be quite handy down the quarter mile then!

                              We started drag racing with a 78-750. We cut all the unnecessary bits off trying to make it as light as possible (lighter wheels would be a great start). Then we strutted the back end, ran a pingel wheelie bar and just jetted the motor & ran a pipe. No electronics or air shift at that point. It was real low budget but taught us a lot about racing. You have to launch a 750 with this set up at about 9,000 rpm because of the low power output. Even then it would barely spin the tire. It was pretty consisten however and would run mid 12's all day long.
