i don't get it.. what pins? i bought this relay locally, and i see no pins? :-?

seriously though, all you people worried about vibration killing the relay.. fork out the extra cash for a "solid state" relay. it will never wear out. ever.

Solid State Relays, solid state relay, AC Solid State Relay, DC/DC Solid State Relay, SSR

can get some here, 3-100vdc 40amps should do the trick easily, 'round 15-20 dollars. but because they have no moving parts.. they basically will never wear out interntally.

Vibration is the enemy of solder. I would use solder-less crimp connectors and heat shrink tubing. I just rewired my bike in this manner. Fired right up first try and because of the heat shrink, should be rather reliable.

              Here's my question

I haven't look for a 4 wire yet, however I remember there being 5 wire relays available that comes with a wire harness that plugs right into the bottom of it. You know for adding trunk relay's for security alarms and such. Couldn't one of those be used? Wouldn't a wire harness that plugs directly onto the relay be better than individual wires?

              I hate sparky stuff...lol

Using a base socket is a much better option if you have the space. It allows for quick disconnection and changing of the relays without having to read the terminal numbers. An override link could also be made up to use if the relay fails from a similar male plug, seeing some members are experiencing failing relays. It is a better option.

                  "base socket"?

Does that mean you agree with my thoughts or are you suggesting something else...lol

I told you I have sparky stuff...now were using terminology...I'm in trouble.

Yes I agree, attached is a picture of the base connector for the relay.

Yes, works fine. Been on my 1000 for a few months.
You have to power the Dyna with it's little red wire too, just powering the coils doesn't do it.
This power does not have to go through the relay, although it could.

just did this mod on my 1980 GS450L, cost me $11 something for a relay from advanced auto and some connectors, i had wire and inline fuses laying around.

it was so easy with this thread here, if it wasnt for my neighbor bull****ting with me i would have had it done in 10 minutes..

btw heres the part number on the relay i got if anyone else is looking

                              84601 Dorman 4 pin 30 amp 12v relay $6 something

you could definitally use a 5 pin.. you just want to totally ignore pin 87A.
