what all should i order when doing pods exhaust and jets

i plan on ordering the things i need for the intake and carbs from cycleorings, but what else should i buy? i imagine i need carb gasket sets/rebuild kits??

gonna be doing the V&H 4-1, K&N pods, DJ stage 3, and replace clutches and clutch springs while im at it. what do i need to order besides what i already have.

well for the carbs you will need o rings, and maybe carb gaskets, if the original gaskets are ok, dont replace them

you dont need the full on rebuild kits.... from the 2 sets i have rebuilt i have only replaced o rings and have been fine....

might want to change oil while your doing the clutch...

allen head stainless bolts are great for replacing the old exhaust head bolts.... along with some antiseize....

check around for advice on jet settings and a good baseline for your carbs...

are the valves in check? if its been a while you may want to check them out, cause they are important especially when it comes to tuning....

if you do that you'll probably need a new valve cover gasket... lol

and last but probably the most important, what kind of shape are the intake boots in???

if they are stiff, i would replace them..

i guess that covers most of them

wouldnt i not need to replace the boots if i am adding pods? not sure on the valves..

i was gonna get the complete o-ring set, and the o-rings for the carb to head.

pods go directly onto the carbs, no airbox boots needed

intake boots (head to carbs), check that they are soft

you may want to throw in new exhaust gaskets (they are not really meant to be reused)

Some anti-anxiety medication and another motorcycle to use while your 850 sits unrideable. :-)

Seriously, the G models in general and the 850 in particular are notoriously partial to their stock airbox well sealed. Even a brittle gasket around the airbox cover can make for poor running bike. That is not to say mods cannot be done, but it is not for the inexperienced or faint of heart. I have heard of more cases where the owner just wishes he could get back to where he started for performance and rideability.

I would advise not beginning the project until after the riding season.

Well said Don. I was going to suggest a great dollop of patience and a decent sense of humour are a must. A shoulder to cry on helps too!
              Enjoy it as it is.
