Its ALIVE!!! AGAIN!!!! Keith, a question...

Ok, so the cafe is running AGAIN! After my little mishap with rain and stuck slides, I had to order a new rack of carbs. I got them, they looked super clean. I broke a cardinal rule in my haste and didnt even clean them. I got lucky, slapped my jets in and adjusted the needles, put them on the bike. Prime, starter button, VROOOOM! took a lil bit for it to warm, but not suprising since its been weeks since its been started, but finally it came off choke. Seems a LITTLE rich. Here's what I got, Keith if you wouldnt mind telling me what my next step might be. Mind you, no plug chops have been done, will do those tomorrow in the light. But just idling, off choke, it smells a bit rich, bliping the throttle produces a bit of black smoke. Could just be from not running too. I'll find out more for you tomorrow.

i would take it for a spin, and see how the jets run it....

get those carbs synched if the jets are good, then do the highest idle thing with the air screws on top

if its still rich then, i would try moving the fuel screws on bottom in small increments to adjust the mixture, then follow with more highest idle settings....

thats just what i would do, but keith probably has better advice.

    lol

PULL the carbs back off & CLEAN them. Then, check the float heights. Then put them back on & set the mixture screws correctly. Then SYNC them. THEN, start with the jetting procedures. Ray.

Ray, I appreciate your knowlege, you skill and years of experiance, and your input, but im not a newb. I didnt DIP the carbs, because they were already clean. I DID spray the internal oriffi (sp?) out, and assured they were clear. Pulled the needle jets, and the pilot, cleaned those. NEW main went in it, as well as needles, slides and actuator arms and chokes that I had cleaned off another pair of carbs. The floats were set as well. The slight richness on idle has nothing to do with them "not being cleaned", because they are. But again, thanks for your input. :-)
