    82gs1100gz oil cooler

would it be possible to use a tee at the oil pressure port (oil pressure gage, & line) and run a hard line to a cooler then back into the oil pressure light port or tap for fitting. i was thinking of using a small b&m trany cooler with a fan. or would i have oiling problems
    thanks

Terry on the board here sells the adaptor plate that replaces the pressure light unit, complete bolt on mod. I have one, a cooler and adaptor that i got second hand, havent installed yet, but i think i will give it a shot in the next day or so maybe. A few people on here think that the coolers on the 8v bikes are unecessary, but if ya want it, it certainly cant hurt, and im one of those who's of the opinion that an engine with better temperature moderation can only last longer, as parts wear better and last longer when not subjected from vast temperature swings.

Terry's adapter worked well for me. Highly recommended.

I have a 16 valve engine, so eventually I switched to an oil pressure feed & return on the front of the motor.

Ohh, id like to see some details on what you're doing with your cams. I have been back and forth about pods and a pipe with my 1100G, simply because its been my everything bike. I commute on it, I ride long trips on it, I hunt twisties with it. But since im purchasing Grandpas GK in August, I have been leaning more toward making it a pure muscle machine. My one fear is having too much grunt for the final drive. Do you know of anyone thats done a bore/cams kit on a shaftie GS and not had problems with it atall?

Oh ok i saw there you have a 16v, cos when i first looked at the pic, i thought it looked alot different from the adaptor i have (dunno if its a Terry model) and the pics ive seen elsewhere of them. The one i have simply looks pretty much like the stock one, with a couple of brass taps on it.

i asked 1 of the guys at fast by gast and he said not to worry about the final drive.

I would have a bit more concern for it than they seem to have. Especially if you are still running the stock inner hub gear in your rear wheel. The 82 models they used some softer cheaper metal in them, and they are prone to stripping the teeth clean. Ive already done it on my 1100G, and now it has an 81 850 wheel on it, which had better metal in the hub gear. The NEW ones you can STILL buy from Bike Bandit, use a better metal, but they are about 100 bucks each. Another consideration is the secondary drive bevel gears. These drive systems werent designed to take alot of snap torque. They'll go forever with smooth power applied, but as soon as you start trying to do clutch dumps or light the rear wheel up, they will throw a fit. Degreeing the cams alone, im not sure that you'll gain a WHOLE lot more power. Not the 100RWHP you're looking for likely. That would probably require a bore kit as well. I dont know for sure tho. Might ask RapidRay, or one of the drag bike guys. Ray knows his stuff.

I do but like i said it will be another week till i can afford it. Sucks cos mine is REALLY starting to whine alot, and its worrying me. But she's been fine as ive poured miles on her, so i think she'll make it till i can get that one from you. Just did bout 700 miles over the last two days, and shes been just fine. I love this bike.

I've seen several evolutions of the Terry adapter. He's like an artist! Each creation is unique. All of them would probably work for you. This one was given to a GSR member with a 8-valve GS1000. It worked on his bike, too.
