Same bike. Get them at Amazon. 100 buck for 4. You want these:

    I'm thinking about them too.

I would be interested in hearing how easy it was to get those 850's running right with the pods. They run pretty poorly with even a brittle air box gasket.

I plan on getting them when I get an exhaust and a jet kit... From what I hear, that combo works well.

The Emgos block next to nothing. You might as well go with open intake with them. I have them, and using them has been a PITA to get the jetting right. Whats more, if it rains, and your bike is in it, or you get caught in it, you WILL get water in thru the intake. I havent stepped up to the plate and ordered them yet, but I think I will be using the APE K&N knockoffs. From what I have heard, they actually take more of a beating than the K&Ns and filter just the same.

Dpep, I had pods on my 1980 850, stock exhaust, and it ran just fine! Maybe the prior owner re-jetted it?

Yeah, I washed mine to remove the varnish on the outside from the PO's leaky petcock and I found I could see daylight through them, not like translucent like a paper towel, but transparent, like looking through a screen. That, and your story of the stuck slide due to water does not give me a good feeling with these pods.

So... the may be a dumb question, but what is the difference in effect between the round and oval? Is it just aesthetics? I can imagine the flow would be better on the ovals, as the opening (filter) between the chrome cap and the flange opening is larger, but this doesn't seem like it'd be a restriction in either case...

not sure on the real difference but every site i have seen only lists the round tapered ones when you look up our bikes. either them or the 2 carb versions (one filter on 2 carbs)
