    Question about Upgrades

Well I have decided to go ahead and order the MAC 4-to-1 exhaust, but I am still regrettably on the fence concerning the PODS? I have had several old Suzuki specialty mechanics tell me it's a very very bad idea, but then I read this and people are Pod crazy! I'm in West Spokane, by Idaho state line, A lot of interstate travel and general here there in town. But, being in the mountains etc I often do ride in some pretty damn tight and light corners etc. My bike currently feels smooth on the interstate and between, but in the upwards corners I either A) Drag my pipes, or B) Not have enough oomph in that altitude to feel secured around them. So, my question is. Pods, good idea? Bad Idea?

If your airbox is a good 'un I wouldn't even contemplate pods. Original air box is best every time (unless you're going racing) in my book. Exhaust mod is sound though.

      Chef did mine

He helped me get ready for the Yosemite Trip, so my only basis is the 2000 miles we did breaking in the motor and climbing from sea level (Santa Barbara) to the top of a 10,000 ft pass on Hwy 120 to get into Yosemite. Pods and Pipes sounded and ran great. I don't know if there was much of anybody running a stock air box on the trip (reno Bruce keeping his GS1150 OEM stock and possibility 1-2 others). At the highest altitude the bikes did not run so well (bucket of bolts sound) but anything below 6000 ft they ripped pretty well. Had to up the idle at about 4500 ft.

The biggest problem I see with pods is getting your carbs re jetted. But with the 4:1 you will need that anyway so, do both or neither.

Right now I also have a stock GS750EX (81) and it runs California lean; I don't plan on changing air box or exhaust but it would do well to run a little richer as well.

      Good Luck.

Ask Chef for tips on carbs or there are others here as well.
