    Why Do The 7/11 Swap?

Just a dumb question, what are the reasons to do the 7/11 swap? That is, why put a 16 valve 1100 engine into a later model 750 E or Kat chassis? Does the 750 handle significantly better? Or is it just to get more power for the 750 without ending up with a high strung, finicky engine (as you would if you hotrodded it heavily)?

    Thanks,
    Mark

Usually it's out of nessecity or convienence. Nessecity if a 750 owner blew thier engine- why not replace it with an 1100? Or convienence as if someone owns a 750 with a decent chassis and an 1100 with a rotted chassis.

That was my case. Good 1100 engine bad chassis. Good 750 chassis no engine. As an aside the 750 chassis is slightly lighter, but not enough in and of itself to warrant the swap. IMHO.

Theres not much advantage to be gained tbh, i'd only do it for the reasons stated above

The idea of a 7/11 really started of with the first gsxr's as the slightly smaller & lighter 7 chassis with a 11 engine in makes a real animal of a bike, done that a few times & its loads of fun

Would your insurance rate be lower since the bike is titled as a 750 ?

Don't quote me on this, but I believe some insurance companies ask about motorcycle engine modifications.

Mine didn't either, but a buddy of mine said his did

I'm willing to bet however that somewhere in the contract it's stated that the motor has to match the frame or something like that. Otherwise we'd all drive Ford Festivas with big blocks

When I was a teenager it was V8 Vegas. People would pull the 4 cylinder out of a vega and put a 350 small block in it. Talk about power to weight ratio.

well, blocks are usually aluminum and easy to sand and re-stamp, so I hear

I'm doing it because its fun and I will have a more powerful bike. Im putting in a GS1000 motor. I never want to get rid of my GS750 after all the work I did to it.

Festivas with big blocks handle like... dung!
That is why you need an SHO drivetrain mounted in the middle.
