I cannot seem to find out the necessary information as to what 4 into 1 headers will fit on my bike. I've got an 82 gs850g, and I've seen part numbers and listings for all the 750s and liter bikes, but not for my sad little 850. The silver bullet really needs an upgrade in the exhaust department.

What I do know is that the rear mounting was different on my bike, which appears to be the only difference that I can find out. Problem is, it's all hearsay, or "it's prolly gonna fit" kinda stuff.

All I would like to know is, bottom line, what 4 into 1 headers will fit on the cylinder head of my 850? The midpipe, mount and anything else are easily fabricated, I'm just looking to pick up a used header, but would prefer buying one that will actually FIT.

Thanks to whomever offers info, and thanks to all who have posted all this great information already. Great looking bikes.

So, uh, anyone have any thoughts on the compatibility of other 4 into 1 exhaust headers? Anyone?

The GSXR based stuff won't work for you, port size is different. You might take a look at some KZ ans possibly GPZ pipes. They share the same intake port spacing and maybe the same exhaust spacing. If you have a salvage yard nearby see what they have and if it will fit.

Billy, thanks for gettin' back with the info. I spoke to the local scrapyard today, and they added that the Mac headers already have a nicely placed bend that directs the exhaust upwards, so adding another midpipe or muffler is easier to fab onto the Mac header, in their opinion. Good stuff, thanks.

            mmmmmmmmmmm Yosh~!

I have a Supertrapp on my Thumper, and it is dead sexy.
On a I4 I think the Yosh, or a Rotary muffler are the best sounding/ performing.

Yosh CF/SS R&D system on my GSX1100F (used to have a Kerker System on this bike, followed by a V&H, then the YOSH)

            Rotary Muffler - btw-

Here's a vid of my Supertrapp exhaust http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fviJL4PHT-0 . I have the end cap off, with it on it's really quiet. This pipe was originally designed for a 89 ZX7. Port tubes had to be made larger and stretched apart, muffler bracket cut off and relocated.

That is very nice .. like what you have done.

I will likely be trying all of these pipes to see what I like the best.
