    GS500 wheels on a GS750E

I'm slapping modern GS500 17" wheels on my 1981 GS750. I've searched and seen a lot of references to doing this but no threads actually concerning it. Has anyone here done it and is there anything I should know ahead of time?

ive got a gs500 wheel on the front of my gs1000. more or less bolts straight in. not sure about your brake set up though as i have uprated the brake set up, dont know if your standard brakes will be suitable. also the front fender will be to big for the wheel, i fitted one off a gsf 600 with modified brackets etc.
its an easy mod if you are competent with a spanner

I'll be using the 310mm rotors from a GS500 and GSF400 and plates to adapt Tokico 4-piston calipers to the setup (6-piston calipers when I snag me up a 5/8" master). I'll be using a dinky little bike speedo to monitor speed for now but I'm considering using a GS500 gauge cluster which will allow me to use the GS500 speedo drive and the tachs are compatible.

My concern will mostly be with the rear wheel. It's also mostly a bolt on deal but I thought I'd see ahead of time if there were any alignment issues or anything.

Why don't you run dual discs? The GS500 wheel is tapped on both sides for rotors. Just grab a GSF400 rotor or a GS500 rotor if you don't mind the drilled pattern going to oposite direction and put a caliper on both sides.

because i have a kawasaki caliper squeezing a gsxr disc which is more than enough braking power plus it reduces the unsprung weight of the bike

You have a GSXR disc on a GS500 front wheel? What model GSXR? I'm curious because the discs designed to fit the GS500 wheel are all 310mm where as most GSXR discs are 320mm which wouldn't mesh well with the Tokico calipers without altering the mounts. I could be wrong...most of my experience is with '97~'04 GSXR components.

as i said before its a gsxr750 disc, not sure what year, with a kawasaki caliper. i made my own mounting bracket to fit it. if you wait a bit i will post a pic

the bracket is what makes all the difference .

Kawasaki and and Suzuki are both big on Tokico calipers...to the point that through the mid 90's to around '03 if it had 6 piston calipers it was the same Tokico piece and a lot of the lower grade Nissin and the smaller would all interchange between Suzukis and Kawasakis.

I'm not sure what caliper that is you got, but if it's from a ZX6R (95 up to the radials) and your bracket aligns the pads proper you could mount a 6-piston caliper. Your rotor is also drilled for the other side

But yeah it's the bracket. If you got a chunk of aluminum or steel and a drill and a saw it doesn't matter what the caliper was made to fit haha

its a ZX9R caliper as mentioned before. the rotor doesn't matter what way its drilled if you only got one! it still does the same job! soon to be painted black to match the rear

What speedo drive did you use? I'm not sure how I'm going to approach the particular part yet. In the end I'll have a trailtech piece or something similar, but dunno in the mean time.

The 86/87 GSXR 750 discs were 310. Ray.
